Highlight announcements from the 2025 summer showcases

We had a lot of events over the weekend, so here's a round-up of some interesting game announcements to keep you up to date.

I don't know whose bright idea it was to have event after event after event…and then more events, as if anyone can really keep up with that. All it does is rapidly bury various games, it doesn't give enough time. So silly in fact that Valve made the "Steam's Summer Showcase of Summer Showcases" event page. But anyway, enough moaning from me, I've picked out a bunch you might want to keep an eye on.

Hollow Knight: Silksong will release in 2025

From Team Cherry.

Yes, really. At least, that's what Microsoft's Sarah Bond said during their handheld announcement (I'll talk more on that later). Nothing to actually show for this one, as it wasn't a full announcement but I thought you Hollow Knight fanatics would like to see it mentioned. Just keep an eye on the Steam page.

Beast of Reincarnation

From GAME FREAK inc. (Pokemon developers).

In post-apocalyptic Japan, humanity’s last hope may rest with Emma and her loyal canine companion, Koo. Explore what it means to be human in Beast of Reincarnation, an expansive one-person, one-dog action RPG built around demanding, technical combat. What awaits at journey’s end?

Appreciate the roundup, as I missed the fact a new Plague Tale game is announced.

I guess you're not encompassing all the showcases though ? From the top of my head, the 007 game and the game 'ILL' are not mentioned here.

hooooooooooly shit there's so much goodness here. Phew. Let me see:

Hollow Knight ......... BAHAHAHAHAH you got me there. Releasing this year. BAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Phew!!! Gotta have a good joke to start off right?

Now for the list of actual real things that exist:

Clockwork Revolution - YES. Absolutely loved Wasteland 3 so super hyped for this.

Neverwinter Nights 2 - going back to Faerun & the Forgotten Realms feels like going home. Comfy old school rpg goodness. Yes please.

Expanse game - It's owlcat. I'll buy anything they develop. Plus even past that, this has got major Mass Effect vibes which is just awesome.

Outer Worlds 2 - It's obsidian. I'll ALSO buy anything they develop. Avowed was AMAZING. Can't wait.

Ambrosia Sky - sounds/looks cool! Never heard of it, but there's a demo!!! Trying that out today.

Resonance - Plague Tale series is wonderful, so sign me up for more of a great thing. Yes please.

Garbage Country - looks like a perfect Deck game!

I'd love a puff of whatever Double Fine were smoking when they came up with Keeper! Looks great though!

Aphelion looks incredible, fingers crossed for that one.

I'd love to play the Atomic Heart series and while their new entry, Cube, looks cheesy, it still looks stunning. Sadly, the devs are Russian and therefore know all about piracy and have bought into the whole Denuvo marketing engine. I won't play their games then. Same with Persona - every one looks like something I'd like to try, but they all have Denuvo. Ah well.

I think I'm most hyped in a tie between Ambrosia Sky and Resonance. I still haven't played the second Plague Tale game, but I'll get around to it. Right after I finish Clair Obscur (which is absolutely incredible, btw, believe the hype).

Finally, while it won't get the same level of hype, the first Planet of Lana was 10/10, right up there with Limbo and Planet Alpha - better than both, I think. I'm putting its sequel on my wishlist right now. It's an insta-buy.

Y'all should really go try the Ambrosia demo ....... that was super fun! Definite purchase for me now.

And @scaine - I had never heard of planet of lana, but due to your comment I took a look at the first game, and one of the top comments says "If your old enough to remember "another world" on the amiga, you will love this."

Insta buy.

Seems like it'd be neat on the Deck too.

I actually retro-played Another World maybe last year, and bounced off how hard it was. Which is crazy, cos I completed it as a teenager!! I wouldn't say Planet of Lana has quite the same vibe, but it does evoke the graphics somewhat. But I absolutely loved it, and highly recommend it. The stand out of 2023 for me.

damn are we the same person?!?! LOL. Same here. I tried it maybe 2/3 yrs ago and it was SO HARD I just gave up. And I too beat it as a kid!

For some reason, "Ambrosia Sky" reminds me of "Prey", going by the trailer. Which could be a good thing, as we'll never get a sequel to that game, unfortunately.

^ Prey is probably up there in my top 20 games of all time. It was just SO SO SO SOOOOOO good. I can still vividly remember the station, the big huge monster scaring the absolute SHIT out of me that first time, reading all the little notes on the mimics, etc... Just masterfully done.

Ambrosia feels very different. Still great! But just different. It's a lot about the comfy feeling of powerwashing goop off of stuff + cool scifi setting + figuring out what happened to the station (so that's the part that's probably most like Prey). But the entire demo is pretty much powerwash goop, collect samples, read interesting lore, try to piece together what happened. There's no combat at all that I saw. (I quit after the first bit, so maybe there is after that? I had seen enough to know I wishlisted it!)
