Sword & Quill have announced the Kickstarter campaign for Soulblaze, a fresh dice rolling creature-collecting roguelite and there's a demo up right now. Another game made with the free and open source Godot Engine.

This sounds like a good one for people who don't have endless amounts of time. It's a bite-sized creature collecting experience. As the developer explained: "Enjoy the fun of picking a starter and building your team without having to commit dozens of hours. Runs are fast-paced and always different, each of your teams unique every time. You won't run out of action points, you won't have to walk to the last healing provider over and over, you just keep going... until you win? Yes, win!"

It will be supported on Linux, macOS and Windows. Check out the full Kickstarter video to get some more details on it:

Game Highlights (from Steam):

  • Capture and train unique hand-drawn creatures that each have their own passive ability.
  • Combat hybrid between classic creature-collecting RPGs and TTRPG dice-roll mechanics.
  • Upgrade and customize techniques by combining tags to create your own individual builds.
  • 90s-retro + fantasy: flash drives, sticker albums, and magic, baby!
  • Twitch integration.

They're hoping to get at least €20,000 on Kickstarter by September 19th.

I backed this project on Kickstarter. The developer has worked in the gaming industry for 14 years and is a victim of the video game layoffs. He is a solo developer. He is the artist, programmer and has been programming in Godot for about a year. The introductory video on Kickstarter is hilarious; well worth the 3 minutes it takes to watch. Unfortunately, after five days, the campaign has a little over $2000 dollars of the over $23000 needed to be funded, so it is unlikely to reach the required goal.

The demo is now available on Steam:
