Mesa 26 is due for release early next year, and it appears that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is one game that's set to benefit greatly from it.

With any current version of Mesa paired with an AMD GPU in the game, you might see various parts of it get some pretty heavy lag and stuttering. You can see some chatter on it and a video example in a Mesa bug report, with the video example showing the issue quite clearly.

One of Valve's developers, Samuel Pitoiset, who works on Mesa and other things mentioned they "wrote a new allocator for descriptor sets and it is way faster". The user who opened the original bug report tried the Mesa patch and reported how "What can I say other than wow.... the stutter is basically gone now". That code has already been merged in and going by a comment from Pitoiset it will debut with Mesa 26 due in January 2026.

Nice to see another performance issue on Linux with AMD GPUs being solved. This might affect other games too if they do similar things but for now Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is the main one confirmed to see a boost.

Nice. I wouldn't say that the game is unplayable, but the drops down to 10fps are really annoying. It's a shame because performance is otherwise really good on AMD despite the Raytracing (~100fps with 7900XT and Supreme settings on my 1440p Ultrawide, and around 45-50ps with my Ally) Good to see this getting fixed emoji

I'm waiting for the GOTY Edition to buy it, which I'm guessing/hoping will drop around Christmas or so, and ifs Mesa 26 releases in Jan, that's perfect timing!
