JSAUX are teasing that they're going to be making Steam Machine accessories, with the first being a new front panel for the Steam Machine with a screen. Some company was obviously going to do this, especially since Valve actually teased it was possible and showed off a prototype with a few YouTubers.

Writing on X / Twitter on November 17, JSAUX teased a few different ideas including an E-Ink display, LCD or Dot-Matrix. Asking people to vote in the comments.

In a later post, they teased a mock-up image noting something was coming in 2026.

Just like we had lots and lots of accessories for the Steam Deck, this could be another fun boost for accessory companies like JSAUX. Having more set hardware like this makes it easy for them, and fun for all of us to see what they can come up with. And no doubt I'll be testing a good few of them over the next year or two.

I wonder what else companies will come up with to empty our wallets for the Steam Machine and Steam Frame next year?

I’m curious how this plugs into the box’s power and systems. Is there an internal usb connector dedicated to the front panel?

I'm thinking maybe access to an internal usb header? If so, it's possibly USB2, so too slow for a proper high-res LCD display.

Worst case you'd need to mod the case and route a cable through to the back so you can plug into something there.

It is probably going to be a self-contained product, with no wires. Built-in battery, and a microcontroller with wifi (Esp32?), so it can connect to the Steam Machine or the internet, to display SM status, weather forecast or something like that.

I like the thing, that only announcing a steam machine is already creating an emulation, and people are coming with all sort of ideas. Saw one creating a steam machine looking like a cube from Portal. This might bring more and more gamer on linux on the run especially if perf on those machines are stronger with steamos than windows.

It's vaguely interesting, but not enough to sacrifice one of the very limited USB ports for. If they'd added an internal header for it on the GabeCube, then I'd be a lot less concerned about the end results.
