The work never ends to improve the KDE Plasma desktop environment for Linux, and with Plasma 6.6 a fun new feature is coming to tweak virtual desktops.
What is it? A virtual desktop acts like having multiple screens on one screen, allowing you to flick between them. You could have specific things open ready on one, ready to swap over to it whenever you need. It can be really useful. However, currently on KDE Plasma the virtual desktop applies to all screens.

That's going to change with KDE Plasma 6.6, as a new option has been added to let you configure the behaviour between the current way, and limiting it only to your primary screen. This sounds great, there's a lot of times I want something to always stay on (like emails or Discord) while swapping around on my main screen and this would be perfect for that.
Plus more features and bug fixes coming as noted in the latest Plasma development blog post roundup.
Plasma 6.6 should be due out in February 2026.
It is one feature of Gnome I really like.
Right now having custom regions and boxes with shortcuts and scripts that resize and move them feels too complex.
I still hope for a way to split an ultrawide screen in two virtual monitors so i can have a game in 16:9 on the left side and chat on the right side.

Whatever scripts you have - you can map to some keyboard hotkeys. Or if remembering arbitrary combinations isn't you jam, I recommend using [Kando](https://github.com/kando-menu/kando) or [fusuma](https://github.com/iberianpig/fusuma) 😊
Have it simple and then offer the option to built fancy stuff on top of it for those that want to invest more time.
