NVIDIA recommended driver 580.126.18 released for Linux

NVIDIA released their latest recommended driver for Linux with version 580.126.18 out now. Don't get excited though, it's a one-liner fix for the latest Linux kernel 6.19. So if you're going to be using an NVIDIA GPU with the very latest kernel, you'll probably need this one.

The one change:

Fixed kernel module build issue with Linux kernel v6.19.

But this is a good time to remind you that you'll need to be on a quite up to date version anyway, since NVIDIA revealed more security issues with their drivers back in January.

And if you missed it somehow the cloud gaming service GeForce NOW has a Beta available for desktop Linux now too.

NVIDIA also released the developer-focused 580.94.18 with these changes:

Fix write then read back of per-primitive outputs in mesh shaders reading back the wrong value

Fix inconsistent vkQueuePresentKHR times with VK_EXT_present_timing for Wayland and direct display [Linux]

Fix present-wait deadlock when switching present modes between FIFO and other present modes [Windows]

Fix DRM format modifier queries for multi-planar formats [Linux]

Improve performance of destroying graphics pipeline libraries

The latest drivers from Nvidia completely ruined my XFCE experience unfortunately, entirely breaking the compositor, which had to be turned off. Attempting to drop back down to the (known working) 570 drivers left me in "broken computer hell", booting to a black screen, which took a couple of days to fix. Grr. I am loathe to try the new 580 drivers as it's probably still the case that XFCE is broken.

I will probably have to accept that Mint really wants me to use Cinnamon instead, which I suppose is no great hardship.
