Is this the end of the PC gaming handheld dream? With shortages everywhere, we're now seeing the Lenovo Legion Go S price skyrocket. With the Steam Deck out of stock pretty much everywhere, and the prices of other handhelds much higher anyway - the AIpocalypse continues to claim victims as AI data centres buy up everything.
The latest victim appears to be the Lenovo Legion Go S, which has seen it's price pretty much double. When it launched it was around $829.99 for the SteamOS version with the Z1 Extreme processor with 32GB RAM and a 1TB SSD. Now? It's listed on Best Buy for an absolutely eye-watering $1,579.99. The official Lenovo website also now doesn't list it at all, Lenovo simply say "Sorry, Legion Go S is Temporarily unavailable on Lenovo.com".
What about the lower-end models of the Legion Go S? The Z2 Go with 16GB RAM and a 512GB SSD was launched at $599.99 but now it's $989.99 on Best Buy.

You would have to be slightly mad to be buying these handhelds at those prices.
It does beg the question - will Lenovo even bother to launch the Legion Go 2 with SteamOS still in June like they previously announced? I imagine this may put quite a dent in their plans.
My somewhat recent purchase of the older Legion Go 1 for a cheap second-hand like-new deal is certainly paying off now. Sticking Bazzite on that has been great overall.
I cannot wait for the AI bubble to burst already, it has done too much damage.
I wonder if the asus devices will go up in price at all too; if they do then we can probably kiss the old steam deck prices goodbye for the near term.
sigh
