No Man's Sky is steadily turning into the everything game isn't it? Hello Games have released another big upgrade for it recently adding creature battling.
It seems like somewhere in their office they have a board of ideas they throw darts at, and add in whatever sticks. Not that I am complaining, this actually looks pretty great.
This update brings turn-based creature battles. So not only are you exploring the universe, cataloging all your finds - now you'll also be gathering a bunch of aliens to form a battle team. With each creature having their own unique set of moves, based on where they come from and their own personality it sounds pretty deep. Your creatures earn experience, level up and gain mutations to become even more powerful. There's even a breeding system.
You can challenge other players on the Space Anomaly along with finding arena tables across planetary buildings, space stations and some planetary settlements. There's a new NPC for the creature system too, who has a unique daily battle for players across the world.

I'm old enough that I was pretty much Pokémon Red and Blue's target demographic when they released, and I loved the idea of being a sort of fantasy biologist, going through the world and discovering various species (not that the battling wasn't fun too, of course!). I've always wanted a sort of Pokémon-like game where each time you start a new run it randomly generates new creatures for you to find, so every experience can recover that sort of first-time wonder when everything is new and you're just learning how things work.
