Darksiders Warmastered Edition got released for consoles, and so the Windows version has been given some love with fresh upgrades too.

Darksiders was originally released back in 2010, with the Warmastered Edition arriving in 2016. Just today, May 20th, THQ Nordic announced a nice big upgrade for the game thanks to the recent console release. The upgrades for the Windows version include:

  • Requires 64bit CPU.
  • Rendering powered by Vulkan. Vulkan graphics API requiring Vulkan 1.3.
  • Photo mode (access this by entering the pause menu while in-game, then take your screenshot via Steam's screenshot function or Windows' screenshot function).
  • Improved Steam Input support.
  • Support for motion-aiming (requires enabling Steam Input and using a controller with motion support).
  • Fixed reticule on low texture resolution settings.
  • Various fixes to controller glyphs of different controllers.
  • Various bug fixes.

Valve previously rated it Steam Deck Verified with Proton, although that rating is from back in January it may not reflect how it runs right now.

Nice to see another classic get free upgrades! And in this case they've kept up the older version in an opt-in Steam Beta too, best of all worlds.

I happened to have started a new run of this game two days ago, and after quite a lot of trial and error getting the cutscenes working correctly, this update broke the game for me 😅. They added a beta branch that reverts back to the 2016 build of the game, which has made it playable again, but I unfortunately cannot access the new features as now the game boots to a black screen until force closed. Proton versions don't seem to make a difference.

It's a good surprise that they still update freely the PC version and made it Steamdeck compatible.

Doing it the right way too! Keeping support for the legacy and retro gamers.

Not yet. I asked in their discord, community manager said they will update EGS and GOG builds later but didnt give an ETA.
