Dinos? In my fortress? Oh no. A big update for Dwarf Fortress has been announced to arrive on June 25th featuring a lot of new content.

What to expect from it? The developer said you'll see quite a wide variety of creatures all the way from the Cambrian Explosion to various extinct mammals and birds of the Holocene era. You will need a new world to see the dinos but they said you should see the animal people update in existing saves. Dinos are optional too, so you can tweak your game to your liking. New content includes:

This includes:

  • 100 dinos and extinct creatures, including baby and dinomen versions
  • Dinos can be used for war, as a pet or as food
  • 5 new settings to adjust how dinos appear in your world
  • Animal people graphical update with held equipment and some bodywear
  • ...and more!

Oh, cool. I might need to start a new game when this releases. With the things Dwarf Fortress players have managed to farm over the years (mermaids, sea serpents, dragons…) I can only imagine unleashing a horde of dinosaurs on the next goblin siege.

Of course, the real question is, what letters will they use in the ASCII version? 😁
