Amanita Design now has some of their titles up on game store itch, on sale too

Posted by , | Views: 4,252

Amanita Design [Official Site], developer of beautiful games like Machinarium and Botanicula is another well known name to put their games up on the itch store.

They now have these titles on there which support Linux:

You can find their itch.io store page here, with links to their games. They're all on sale too, a perfect time to grab them if they still haven't picked up a copy.

As a big fan of itch.io, I'm really happy to see more well known developers put their games on it. Their store is slick and easy to use, but the icing on the cake is their speedy open source game client.

I don't understand why Steam does not provide Linux port available for this game.

It's steam that has control over that. It's Amanita who has the power to not publish the linux version.
I really love their games, but last time I pre-ordered botanicula with linux support, and the way I pre-ordered no linux version would be distributed. Which of course became clear when the distribution started.
But if it works through itch.io, I could try that on my gpd win. I mean: I am really looking for low cpu power games to play in an airplane.

Still no sign of a port for Samarost 3, which is highly disappointing.

Their upcoming game Chuchel doesn't list Linux

I don't think it is the last version of Machinarium selled on Itch?
The remastered edition is avalaible on Steam for Windows and Mac users, it uses Directx.

I really like Amanita Design games. It would be nice to have linux build on steam, but for once GOG have Linux build where Steam don't :p
Nice to see them also on itch.io

I refuse to buy games that do not support Linux on Steam. It's like a stamp of quality of sorts for me.

I do have a bunch of games, mostly from earlier Humble Bundles, that have a Linux build somewhere that works somewhat. Often outdated and/or lacking features in relation to a Windows version. Whereas the ones that have a Linux build on Steam are still playable without messing around much.

Not a law, but a general rule of thumb.

So they got finally rid of the awful Adobe AIR backend that dropped Linux support a long time ago?

Well, for balance, I refuse to buy games that support Linux exclusively via Steam.... ;)

From what I've heard, they are using their own engine now. Really, they can as well have picked Haxe, if they liked ActionScript.
