Civilization VI [Steam] is a really fun game and it's damn good to have it on Linux, but performance has been an issue. Aspyr Media are aware of it and they are looking to improve it.

From their forum posts (source):
QuoteMultithreading is supported now, but not on the rendering path. Our implementation of OGL has issues with multithreading unfortunately, and we are actively looking at alternatives.

Also, in response to this question "Do you mean alternatives for OpenGL (everybody knows what that could be..) or alternative implementations of OpenGL ?" (source):
QuoteBoth! All options are on the table for optimization.

It's good to know it's going to see good post-release support from Aspyr, but I never doubted it would for a moment.

Hopefully, we will continue our playthrough on Twitch again this Sunday. Article taken from

kshadeGood port? it doesn't have borderless window fullscreen (always comes back up automatically and misaligned when you tab out) and crashes once or twice before it actually loads a game.
Sounds like an issue with your WM, never had that issue.

I'm using XFCE, not issues with anything else.

I also have problems with Alt-Tab on XFCE. As a workaround to successfully switch out of the game, I assigned a "Show Desktop" shortcut (Settings Manager > Window Manager > Keyboard).

Sparhawkworks fine for me. AI turns could be quicker. That's about it.
This is the exact issue! Has anyone compared AI turns on Windows and Linux? This where I would hope to get a real improvement - it does seem to think and think....

Graphics are nice but its turned based civ and really should look like this: [[/img]](,46924/)

And in other news....: Civ was supposed to be an RTS!
