Leadwerks Game Creation Toolkit Arrives On Linux This Monday!

Posted by , | Views: 7,624
Leadwerks the fantastic looking game creation toolkit is due to arrive on Linux on Monday. Josh Klint announced on kickstarter last night.

Leadwerks was kickstarted back in July of last year, so it's good to see it so soon. It promises to be an easy-to-use game development system.

One thing I like about this is Josh has been very vocal about the porting process, saying how easy it has been:
Josh Klint, LeadwerksThe entire porting process was fairly straightforward. For every system I use on Windows or Mac, I found a Linux equivalent that worked just as well. In the case of the iNotify API and X11, the Linux API was actually easier to use than the equivalent on Windows or Mac.

Josh has also asked that anyone who backed for OUYA/Android development to allow him to replace that with SteamOS work as he thinks Linux is the "coolest gaming platform of 2014". Pretty high praise!

The Linux version of Leadwerks on Steam will also come around the same time.

I so want to change "the Linux API was actually easier to use than the equivalent on Windows or Mac." to "Linux was actually easier to use than Windows or Mac." and post out of context lol. But i'm not like that. Project looks interesting and if it can open the door to more linux games/ports (ports that are worth a damn) then kudos

Rather annoying that the Leadwerks website says "Build games for Ubuntu on Ubuntu" rather than "Build games for Linux on Linux".
Did they REALLY limit it to one distro? If so, that seems unnecessary and you'd think they'd at least pick the most popular one. MINT. ( (Yes I already know MINT is based on Ubuntu).

Distrowatch is not anything to base things on, FYI they track hits to their pages and nothing else.

I think it means it will work best on Ubuntu but may take some work to get it to run on other distros. I'm hoping anyway
