Trüberbrook, a beautiful adventure game with Linux support, is on Kickstarter

Posted by , / 3236 views

This story-driven adventure game set in 1960s Germany places you in the role of a young scientist who finds himself having to save the world.

As you can see from the above trailer, Trüberbrook [Official Site] looks simply wonderful with hand-made backgrounds and careful attention to detail in its visuals. It’s slated to be a type of point and click adventure game with a streamlined interface.

The story places the protagonist and young nerdy scientist, Hans Tannhauser, in an idyllic location in a remote part of Germany in the 1960s. Things are not all quite as they might seem and things escalate into what will hopefully be an interesting adventure.

You can click below to see all of the promised features:

Official Features
  • Suspense! Mystery! Thrills! After all, it's a single player sci-fi mystery adventure game. We want to keep you entertained!
  • Join American student Tannhauser, stranger in a strange land
  • Set in cold-war rural Germany in the late 1960s
  • Inspired by Twin Peaks, The X-Files, Stranger Things & Star Trek
  • Indulge in universal themes such as love, friendship, loyalty, self-discovery and dinosaurs
  • Handmade miniature scenery!
  • English and German localization with full voice acting!
  • Atmospheric, moody soundtrack
  • Coming to Windows, Mac, Linux, Xbox One, PlayStation®4 & Nintendo Switch
  • A likely mobile port later!
  • Up to 10 hours of super exciting gameplay!
  • Release scheduled for late 2018 – not the longest wait!

If you’re interested in finding out more about the project or backing it, you can do so at its Kickstarter page. Backers can get the final product through Steam or DRM-free.

I don't like the noses of the characters and yes that is a reason for not backing them up!!!

Hmm , wondering if we have any German users who might know this btf GmbH firm.
If they were serious with previous projects.
Thinking to try my luck on the lowest tier that gives a game (25$)

Avtually I don't know them. So far most german companies have delivered - also when it comes to Linux ports. I think they might be someone I'd rather trust.

It looks awesome and defiantly something I'd play. I don't really do kickstarters but I'd defiantly wishlist it when it shows up on Steam.

Given that they work professionally for German television and even did two retro mini point and click adventures featuring German television presenter and comedian Jan Böhmermann I think we can be reasonably certain they will deliver a well rounded finished product. Looking at the art style and the unusual alternative controls (separate head movement) they feature in the video I'd assume this is also somewhat of a passion project.

btf stands for Bild und Tonfabrik (Image and sound factory) which is a producer of TV Shows and 2 smaller Point and Click games you probably never heard of. The PnC games they made were in direct connection to one of the TV Shows they produce ("Neo Magazin Royale", a satirical comedy show. The guy in the Video who asks if he is the main character, is the host of that show.).

I haven't played their games, both are not available for Linux, even created with Unity. Who's interested in the games, they are available for smartphones too but in German only, you can download the first one for free: Game Royale 1, Game Royale 2. But Keep in mind, if you don't know the TV Show you might not have any connection to the story of the games.

this looks awesome; the first project i would support on kickstarter; to bad its useless as linux user to support devs cause of constant broken promises.

As others already pointed out, btf GmbH is working for television and at least one of their products is long-running and well known in Germany (and Turkey ). I didn't know the company before (as it's the case with most companies behind the TV formats you see), but they should be professionals with professional equipment and daily jobs that keep them from starving while creating the game. I think they do earn some trust.

ArehandoroA bit of light and uniqueness in the adventure world! Hurray! Though every time I get more reluctant of KickStarter, not sure if I should back it.

I said this but ended up backing it a few hours later xD

EDIT: They will also release for Switch, that was the main aspect of the kickstarter that made me back them in case the Linux version is cancelled.
