Enabling 144 Hz on Nvidia Linux Drivers
PublicNuisance Jun 2, 2016
I am not as experienced with Nvidia drivers as I am with AMD on Linux. I just got a new GTX 960 and want to set my monitor to 144 Hz but I am not finding the option in the Nvidia X Server Settings. I am using version 352.63. I only see ways to force it through Terminal and editing the X-Org file. On AMD I would simply go to Display Manager in the Catalyst Control Center and set my refresh rate to 144 Hz. Is there an equally easy way for Nvidia drivers ?

Found it. For any others having the same issue you have to manually set the resolution. Once you do it will allow you to change the refresh rate. It defaults to Auto which will not allow you to change the refresh rate.

Yeah, and it's pretty unintuitive since "Auto" isn't a good indicator that it's the Hz setting -w-

Yo, I'm checking in!

If you're on GMOME 3, don't forget to also set 144 Hz in the GNOME display settings (per the default GUI).

GNOME doesn't give a shizzle about what you set in your X settings and will overwrite them. :)
