GoG or Steam

Hi Linux gamers,

Which is the best platform to play on Linux for you ?
Do you prefer Steam for his workshop, Achievements and other thing.

Because i have the both platform and i would like to keep only one ... GoG has not AAA Linux games but is DRM-Free ...

GOG, CD project respectively, doesn't give damn about Linux.

GOG is no "platform" on Linux. It's just games you download and play, old-skool (well, as old-skool as downloading something is, anyway) way.

Both have their place. Steam has auto-updates which make managing your games so much more easy. GOG's installers can be used however you like, so sharing games with your family (on the same or other computers) is a breeze; Steam makes this very annoying and convoluted. Then there are the price differences, ofc.

It's up to you to decide which one fulfils your needs best. I use both, and more besides.

Way I see it there is no best, it's a matter of preference.

If you don't mind splitting your library and tolerate DRM, you can use GOG for the available DRM-Free titles and steam for the AAA ones.

There's a reason for that. Legally, you're not supposed to freely "share" games among multiple computers/users, which is why Steam has the restrictions it does to actively discourage people from sharing a single account and having unlimited access to every game.

GOG themselves tell you that you can use the same game on all pc's in your house and they're fine with it. It's a very reasonable thing. What they are not ok with is if for example, your brother lives in a different house and you pass the game to him.

On the Steam side, there's a family sharing mode.
