This week actual game news has been very light due to tiny releases and the festive period. However, I'm mostly back to work on GamingOnLinux now! The quiet period doesn't mean I'm doing nothing though, far from it!
Today (oh crap it's past midnight), I am soft-launching our GOTY award for nominations. You guys are getting to have a peek first :)
It's very different (code-wise) to previous years and took me two days to get fixed up, didn't help that I had a power cut today, oh well!
It will only let you add games/projects that exist in our database, so this way we can prevent people spelling things about a million different ways to mess things up like the last two years...
That does come with one drawback: if it's not in our database, it cannot be nominated. So, I spent another two hours hooking up a quick submissions system (the link is below the submission box) or you can email us (the other link).
On top of that, the Free Games page now has a link (if you're logged in) to allow you to suggest tags for games.
I've got a big list of games people have sent me, which I'm gradually going over and adding in, which I shall continue to do so tomorrow (as it's super late now), in case some of them people want to nominate for the GOTY. Even with the stuff I have left to add in, the free games page has well over 250, you're sure to find something interesting on it! :)
Let me know any bugs you find and anything that's not quite right.
Also, could you possibly filter out DLC for the categories where they are not valid? And filter out everything else for the DLC category I guess.
I will look to adjust the picker for DLC/Non-DLC, but that might take a while and it's low priority compared to getting the rest solid, that's in the "nice to have" list :)
I'll start adding stuff.
If it left early access - thats a full new release.
Remastered releases count as a fresh release. Especially for us, as that will often mean its entirely new for us.
If there was an official re-release or remaster, published for Linux during 2017, I think it should be eligible.
EDIT: Too slow. Although I could have sworn Liam tweeted something like "Right, that's me done on @gamingonlinux for 2017, will be back in 2018 (Monday)". :P
