doesn't work anymore with ubuntu 18.04 and derivatives
on the steamforums the moderator said that updating (fixing) the game was not a priority
in terminal:

Your problem must have a different source
every other game runs fine, so i doubt that the problem is at my end.
With the hope for larger scale Linux support, these sort of dependency issues are a bit worrying though.
Can you try that?
Report the system you are having problems playing the game, e.g. distribution, graphics card, processor, graphics driver version, amount of ram.
There should be potential to have systems listed where the game works, as well as places it does not.
This next suggestion would be very useful for all readers:
How to fix the game, e.g. steam command-line parameters, config file changes, library installs.
It would be a great reference tool, if done well.
