But given how small the library that actually works is, I would like to gather some feedback from someone who actually has a similar setup. I am running on an Nvidia card (970m so lower end for VR) and Solus Linux.
Here people already shared some experience:

Then there are also a few titles on the SteamPlay compatibility list:

And it appears that at least in theory you could get Dirt Rally work with Revive:

I am specifically interested in cockpit games like Dirt Rally, action oriented flight-sims or space shooters.
Everspace seems to lack VR in it's Linux version, and I don't think there is a way to force the windows version though Steamplay?
House of the Dying Sun seems to work though:

Does anyone know if "Sublevel Zero" has VR support under Linux?
Are there any cool underwater VR games that might work?
Ah and since that runs great without VR on SteamPlay: Any luck with the "Vanishing of Ethan Carter VR"?

But looks like I was wrong and it is possible to play Everspace VR native:

(still some issues with the controllers though?)
Same person also posted about Google Earth VR on Proton:

If the title works, VR and Proton should work too. You may have more of an issue with your video card though, does it support vulkan?

You have a HTC Vive that you are using with Linux? I don't have Windows at all, so I am a bit concerned that I'll get very limited use out of it if I buy one.

Did you by any chance tried UltraWings? I have tried that on DaydreamVR and it is a lot of fun. Seems to be available on Steam as well.
Is there a way with SteamPlay to force using the windows version over the Native binaries? In some cases there seem to be no plans to support VR natively.

Never heard of it tbh. I was able to get it working with VR though.
SteamPlay does that :) Did you mean the reverse?
As for native VR, not sure what you mean there. The way SteamVR hooks into Wine is basically native to Linux more then Wine (steam isn't installed in Wine at all just a few dlls).

I mean for titles that have a native port for the non-VR parts, but VR only works with the Windows binaries. Dirt Rally and I guess Everspace would be examples.

Is pretty cool on Daydream as well. Anyone tried it?

Anyone tried it on Linux with VR?

As a short term stop gap: anyone had luck running these mobile bridges TrinusVR or VRridge2 from within Proton? Seems like it might work...
