This is how I got it working.
First you need to edit the Launch Options.
Right click on the Game, go to Properties, click on Launch Options, and add this.
PROTON_DUMP_DEBUG_COMMANDS=1 %command%
Now launch the game and wait a few seconds.
This will create a script on /tmp/proton_user.
Open that location with you favourite file manager, look for a file called "run", leave that file manager open.
Now go to your steam Library again and right click on Properties of the game again, now click on "Local Files" tab and then "browse local files". This should open another file manager windows.
Now double click or click inside pc folder, then over Mafia2Launcher. Now copy the "run" script from the other file manager window over Mafia2Launcher folder.
Now you need to edit that file, open it with you favourite text editor and edit this lines, look for the lines that say
cd "/home/user/.steam/steamapps/common/Mafia II Definitive Edition/pc/Mafia2Launcher"
DEF_CMD=("/home/user/.steam/steamapps/common/Mafia II Definitive Edition/pc/Mafia2Launcher/Launcer.exe")
replace those line so they look like this (I use /home/user as an example but yours might be different)
cd "/home/user/.steam/steamapps/common/Mafia II Definitive Edition/pc/"
DEF_CMD=("/home/user/.steam/steamapps/common/Mafia II Definitive Edition/pc/Mafia II Definitive Edition.exe")
Now save the run script.
Next rename Launcher.exe in /home/user/.steam/steamapps/common/Mafia II Definitive Edition/pc/Mafia2Launcher to Launcher.exe.bak
Now rename the "run" script to Launcher.exe.
That's all ^_^ it should work as normal launching from the Steam Library, remember to change the Launch Options (in "right click" >> properties ), back to normal.
