Famed Japanese game-developer Capcom is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, and today has opened a website called [Capcom Town](https://captown.capcom.com/en), featuring various sections celebrating the company's games and history, some downloadable icons, as well as fluff like polls on various Capcom-related topics.

I'm mentioning it here on GOL because there's a Retro Games section that allows you to freely play a selection of their classic titles in your web-browser, presumably for the duration of the time that the site is available. I've just given it a quick test in Firefox and it seems to work on Linux just fine (I only tested with my keyboard, but apparently it should support gamepads as well - I just don't have one on me right now). :smile:

The available retro titles (each playable in English or Japanese) are;

Final Fight (SNES)
Mega Man (NES)
Mega Man 2 (NES)
Mega Man X (SNES)
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior (SNES)

There'll also be a Capcom Showcase video broadcast later today, but I don't know if that will appear on this anniversary website or just on their YouTube channel.

I started Megaman X just to see if my 8BitDo gamepad works, but no, it does not. I mean the controller gets detected (I can select it in the right-hand menu) but the mappings are all wrong. Right thumbstick click is apparently "Start", I can jump and shoot with the face buttons as expected but that's all. I can't actually move the character.

error in the javascript console instead of a working game in Firefox.

It looks like if you click the "(?)" icon at the right, you might be able to remap?

Damn. It works right away for me (current Firefox, current Xubuntu), and didn't even put up any fuss about my security add-ons. I've got no idea what's going on there. :sad:

I've got the error in Firefox 114.0.1-1 (official Arch Linux package). It works in Chromium. Debugging is cumbersome since the js code has been obfuscated and it uses wasm as well.

Unfortunately the roms are obfuscated as well, so there isn't anything to gain without a harder look at what the wasm code does. So my answer to

I tested in Firefox 114.0.1 on Mint. A bit strange that a different build of the same Firefox version would have trouble with the same javascript code. Unless something is blocked by some browser (privacy) add-on?

It works in a fresh profile (although in slowmo). But the settings that I would suspect do not help for the old profile (e.g. disabling tracking protection, crypto miner protection or uBlock Origin).

Location might not be to far away but in terms of quality its very far away...... I took a short diesel guzzling bus ride to Capcom Town.......

First up...... My Xbox controller wont work with it....... It sees it..... And I can select it..... But none of the buttons do anything and I cant rebind them.....

Second...... The default keyboard bindings are dreadful..... X for start???....... Who the hell is going to guess that without looking at the bindings...... And I also couldnt rebind the movement to the arrow keys.......

Third..... The awful pixel smoothing effect is really bad...... Looks like a vintage porno shoot with Vaseline smeared all over the camera lens.....

All in all..... Emulationville is a much better place to enjoy your time with much better scenery and control services that actually work....... And the streets are much easier to navigate......

Capcom Town was rushed to compete with Emulationville but it needs a lot more work and a better foundation to build on.......

Capcom Town might be easier to get too........ But Emulationville is more worth the journey.......
