Possible Proton or Wine Issue

Sorry for the generalized post, but I'm trying to figure out if Proton or Wine can get corrupted over time. I'm a linux noob still trying to learn and break from the Windows mindset.

I've noticed when running games in steam, I sometimes get a C++ Runtime error, but if I try to run the game again, I don't get it. Then there are times where it's pretty consistent like this...

Above are the results of trying to run Starfield using latest Proton, Proton Experimental, and Proton GE, even with launch options.

I can see some people on ProtonDB have no issues with a title or show their solutions. Yet I have issues, and when I try the solutions, they don't work.

I hate Windows, despise it like the bathroom peephole it is in a childrens school. I can dual boot into Windows but when I see people with similar Linux setups having success, it's a last resort measure.

Advice and input would be greatly appreciated. I'm tired.

The prefixes (the virtual Windows installation used to run the game) can be corrupted.

If you move between Proton/Wine versions it is usually a good idea to delete the old prefix if you run into any issues.

Quoting: I_Hate_Windowsyou can reinstall any package if you feel it is corrupted

sudo apt install "name of package" it will ask if you want to replace or reinstall say yes

I tried reinstalling the vulkan libraries but it came back with 'latest version already installed'. Is there a way I can prompt the reinstall option or would I have to uninstall and reinstall? (I.e. purge libvulkan' if I even have this right?)

Quoting: I_Hate_Windowssudo apt --reinstall install "package name"

its the --reinstall flag that should force it, arch is so much easier

it acts like i said and just installing a package normal way will prompt you to reinstall if wished

I didn't know that command. I'll give it a shot.

Many thanks!

Quoting: I_Hate_Windowstbh im an arch user i just asked google

Google is a vast repository or knowledge and garbage, but travelling it's ways are best done with help of a navigator.

Or maybe...

I'd rather ask the librarian for help than a card catalog any day.

Whatever the case, I appreciate your effort, so, thanks!
