Hi All,

I'm trying to get Victoria 3 to work but it keeps crashing. I opened a ticket with Paradox support, and this is what they found.

It is odd that the system.log sees the video as llvmpipe/MESA, whereas you have an nVidia 2070 card in fact (which doesn't use or need MESA), and that's what I normally see in system.log. My Linux knowledge is pretty rusty, do you know what that llvmpipe reading signifies?

So my question is two pronged. First, what is llvmpipe and it's relation to NVIDIA cards. The second is how do I set it so it is not reading MESA.

If it helps, my current distro is Devuan Daedalus, and the NVIDIA driver is 525.147.05.

llvmpipe is software rendering, which you shouldn't be using. Post system specs.

Hi.

To follow up, based on my conversation with Paradox Support, my computer is using OpenGL instead of Vulkan. According to them, Victoria 3 will not work with OpenGL. Can you let me know how to switch from OpenGL to Vulkan?

Hi,
Your situation is quite peculiar.
First of all, llvmpipe should only work when you have NO proper driver on your system. That means neither the open source, nor the closed source (company) Nvidia driver.
Second, inxi shows a proper, working closed source Nvidia driver on your computer, which is good. But this contradicts the previous statement.
Also, the Nvidia driver should have installed Vulkan support as well. Just to be sure, please check your installed packages, try to look for something like "nvidia-vulkan" or similar.
I am not an expert in Devuan based distros, so your problems might or might not be related to that, like possible missing packages.

Also, which one is crashing? The game itself or the Paradox launcher? If it's the latter, it was also mentioned in the Steam forums, look around there.They might have made a mistake with an update.
I know for a fact that the launcher for Stellaris got wrecked with one of the updates some time ago and I am not sure whether they fixed it yet.

maybe its a problem with 32bit drivers?
drivers are installed but only 64bit. Multiarch not enabled or something
Hi. So the launcher launches just fine, but when I try to start the game from the launcher, that is when the game crashes. If it is relevant, the game goes from Steam, to the Paradox Launcher, then it crashes.

As for multiarch, I thought it was enabled since in order to run steam it had to be enabled, but if there is another step regarding enabling it, please let me know.

What does Steam/Help/System Information/Video Card tell you? Is it also llvmpipe?
For longer files, you can just copy it to pastebin and share the link you get with it (if it doesn't have any private information).
