It is 2026, that means it is the new Steam Machine release year, although I imagine Valve are sweating a bit on the RAM pricing.

So here's our first poll for the new year and new forum.

My getting a Steam Machine is dependent on us getting a Steam Frame and deciding to use it in the living room rather than where my desktop is. Otherwise I'm perfectly happy with my desktop and Deck for my gaming requirements.

I've been wanting to get a gaming PC for a while after playing exclusively on the Steam Deck. Of course, the Steam Machine was announced at a good time. I'm hoping I don't have to wait too long.

The whole ram thing will definitely be interesting to see what the pricing winds up as.

To answer the poll: YES! I will for sure be getting probably two of them LOL. One for myself to replace my aging htpc in the living room and then run a plex server on it with some NAS drives in the closet to serve up all my media. Then a second one for my friend to game on his brand new hyper awesome 100" projector home theater in his basement. We will also be getting a bunch of the controllers to go with both.

Maybe – I'm not opposed to small form factor cases and quiet PCs, but I'm going to wait for user reports. I don't like pre-ordering or buying new products that might require a few revisions before they are really done. I've waited quite a while before buying my Steam Deck and I'm glad that I missed the order queue experience and fan issues.

I definitely want to buy the new controller.

^ the fan issues were pretty serious with the original lcd deck. I had one and it was impossible to play the game I wanted to play at the time in bed (whatever recent lego car racing game that was super fun) because the deck would sound like an airplane getting ready to take off and annoy my wife (rightly so). The OLED gen2 deck has zero of those issues.

So yeah ... might be a good idea to wait and get the improved gen2 machine.
