Creative Assembly recently held their 25th Anniversary Showcase for the Total War series, with Total War: MEDIEVAL III being announced. In case you missed it, GOG also recently expanded their Preservation Program with some classic Total War titles and more are coming to GOG too.

As for Total War: MEDIEVAL III, it's quite some time away as it's only in the "opening stages" and sounds like it's going to be a big thing for Creative Assembly as a developer. Their full announcement on it:

We’ve been waiting a long time to say this: Total War is going back to the medieval era.

We’re in the opening stages of Total War: MEDIEVAL III’s development – pre-production, to be precise, meaning we’re still years from release. But this isn’t just another game for us, it’s the realisation of something we’ve dreamed about for almost 20 years. The Medieval series is one of the most cherished chapters in Total War’s history, and creating a true successor is a goal we’ve held close for a long time. Now, we finally have the chance to make it happen.

This next chapter will be both a tribute to its predecessors and a bold revolution for what historical Total War can be. The team’s vision is clear: to create the ultimate medieval strategy sandbox featuring our signature blend of grand strategy and tactical real-time battles. A game that lets you shape your realms, rewrite history, and immerse yourself in the drama and intrigue of the Middle Ages like never before.

Some of you might be asking why we’ve revealed it this early, and the answer is quite simple: we want you to come on this development journey with us. At certain points throughout the year, we’ll share behind-the-scenes insights and give you a closer look at how the game is taking shape, so you can see it evolve with us – and in some cases influence its direction.

This isn’t just a sequel; it’s the rebirth of historical Total War.

As part of this, they're also completely overhauling their game engine "Warcore". They said it is the most advanced game engine in the history of the franchise that will empower their developers "with powerful tools to make gameplay more immersive, dynamic, and responsive than ever before". They said this new game engine also opens up the possibility for console releases too, so hopefully this means some big gamepad improvements for future titles on PC as well (which could be great for Valve's new Steam Machine).

While Feral Interactive have previously done Native Linux ports of their games, it's far too early to tell if they will continue to do so, as Feral seem to be mostly out of doing Linux ports now. Back when Total War: PHARAOH was announced, Creative Assembly incorrectly listed Feral as doing a Linux port with Feral later confirming it was only doing macOS for it. I'm going to presume you'll need Proton to continue playing the Total War series on Linux at this point, especially if you want cross-platform multiplayer.

Since Medieval III is in pre-production stage, maybe we'll get a Medieval II remaster before that. Just wishful thinking. Medieval II on a 64-bit engine would do wonders for the modding community.

It's in pre-pre-production. Terribly exciting. In the current industry climate that leaves at least half a decade of dodging cancellations, and that's assuming Sega doesn't get profoundly sick of CA regardless of how well the Medieval 3 development is going.

This entire announcement reeks of insincerity, desperation and damage control.
