GTA 6 publisher Take-Two reportedly shutting Roll7 and Intercept Games

QuoteIt's worth noting at this point that Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick, was paid $42.1 million last year, which is more than two-and-a-half times the previous year. So once again, the people at the top are pulling in big numbers while cutting the people doing the work.
This needs to be pointed out more often. No one deserves this high a salary, especially at the expense of those that earn much less. Plain greed.

What's the correct number for them to make ? How do you arrive at that number ? Who gets to decide ? I'm not trying to defend Take Two but at the same time trying to dictate how much people are allowed to make is a recipe for a different form of tyranny.
Well, the correct amount for those developers to make is apparently zero, and who got to decide was a guy who pocketed, as a raise, more than double their collective salary. So I'd say your question, not to mention your fears of tyranny, are a bit more urgently pointed back at you.
I'll be frank: Anyone making more than a million bucks a year, I really don't give the tiniest damn about his so-precious freedom to make all that dough, or the horrors of a tyranny that would take it away from him. Fuck those guys and the imaginary job creation they rode in on.
Who gets to decide? How about all those people he stole the salaries of? How about all the other people CEOs decide their wages shouldn't be enough to make rent?

I think it does not on Linux, only on Windows.

I really like modern Gnome myself, so yeah I just shrugged and held down the super button. I do wonder what percentage of Gnome users know about that though. I suspect not a lot.
I haven't tried Gnome in a long time, but I get the impression that it can do a lot of cool things that aren't very discoverable, so a lot of people who try it in effect can't use those cool things.

What the others said, and to make fixing this easier, you can use something like ProtonUp-Qt which will show you a nice interface that lists all your installed games and what Proton version they're forced to use, if applicable.

Thx. I did do this and found no game using Proton 8. I know I did this before. Not sure if it was on the Linux Desktop side. Perhaps I delete manual the files. Just can't remember

You probably have at least one installed game that is explicity configured to run under Proton 8 in its properties:

Game -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool

By the way, you don't have to uninstall Proton 8 unless you're really short of space in your root/home filesystem.

I mean the people who give themselves millions of dollars in bonuses certainly think they're allowed to decide how much people are allowed to make. I don't think you'll make too many working class friends for defending these people for capping peoples ability to make money for their own benefit though... And yes the standard model for a business under capitalism is indeed a tyranny with someone at the top calling all the shots to maintain their position of power and wealth.

You need to tell the games that are currently using that version of Proton to not use that version of Proton; then you can remove it.

The salary should reflect somebody's productivity. I didn't make that up, economic theory did. And you can't sell me the idea that a CEO is more productive during his potty break than one of his developers during an entire year, without making me burst out in hysterical laughter.

These people stuff their pockets with money until they burst because they can, that's all there is to it.

It's great that they finally provided an installer, but if you've already gotten it setup in the past, then you should be good to go. Also, I'm glad that they finally added controller support because it's annoying to use a mouse to navigate to a game you want to play.

An understandable if unfortunate reaction to their history. Pity it isn't also one of the most anti-Fascist countries in Europe, which would also have been an understandable reaction to their history.

Fascism is actually just the dialectical inversion of Marxism. In both fascism and Marxism, the state is God - the only difference is what you're collectivizing. They're almost the same ideology. China is the dialectical synthesis of Marxism and fascism to make neoliberal communism.

Actually Marxism has more in common with Democracy than with Fascism.

Marxism is the ideology of economic democracy whereas when people mention modern Democracy it is political Democracy. The ideas that Marxism proposes are first and foremost of the economic kind and provides no prescription for a political system (just like Democracy provides no prescription for an economic system). Marxism is a "mirror image" of political Democracy.

What does this mean? The primary tenents of Marxism are that "the workers own the means of production". This means that workers get to decide their own economic future rather than having an authoritarian top down system decide their economic future (working for a corporation is essentially authoritarian as the company leadership analyzes and makes decisions on the future direction of the company that benefits the owner or shareholders and then passes the orders down the organization to be fullfilled by the workers). Marxism proposes that the workers make decisions on a companies or organizations future that benefit them as a whole (through voting) and then are motivated to fulfill this direction because it is in their own interest. This was seen in various countries through worker cooperatives where workers would vote as a whole on what the direction of the organization would be. As you can see, there is no perscritption for a political system being made.

Fascism is the ideology of "unity" and strength (particularly of the military kind). This is why the symbol of fascism is the Roman "fasces" (from whence the word is derived) as it represents unity of society and the State. It is purely a political ideology and makes no perscription for economic systems (though traditionally it has promoted business and capitalism).

Yeah none of this is true. Get out of the room, Russian troll. Either you are spewing Russian propaganda or repeating it.

What's not true? The Wolyn Massacres were caused by UPA members who said "we will kill any Polish man, child or elderly and get them off our land. It doesn't matter if they are pregnant or newborn, we will hunt them to the last"? This resulted in around 100,000 Polish people killed on the territory of Lwow

And yet Poland is essentially a Western colony at this point through cultural and political (not direct) colonization. This is far more insidious and terrifying.

Now it has an official package from the developer, available for basically any distribution. It's really not complicated.

Gotcha, since I was already feeling supported by the source code, I feared I was missing something critical.

Thank you very much for the explaination!

Quoting: rustigsmedwith win10 support ending for home users late next year combined with win11 high system requirements we could see a continued or slight jump. anyone want to predict Jan 2026? will 6% or higher be possible? It will be interesting and fun to watch.

I suspect not. Most users are lazy and instead will just buy new hardware. Especially since Windows has established the "well known fact" that PCs slow down over time and you have to either re-install the OS or just get a new computer. Most ppl will do the later I suspect.

Even at the company where I work they downgraded to Windows 11 in the past few months and oh boi ... the amount of PCs which where ripped out of the office was stellar maybe like 30 PCs just from our department. Considering companies try to keep costs low it seemed not be the an issue to trash alls those still wonderfully working systems.

I think you are right: most people won't switch, but even if a small fraction of Windows users switch, it will have a noticable effect on growth I think.
