I think it's Shadow Warrior 2 after all. It was supposed to come out this spring. Check out "Wade Ferris Chronicles". Noted the name? :)

BTW the main map feature is integration with sotamap.com.

With regards to the combat system, the initial setup is a typical hot-bar style affair but you can, and should, be using the dynamic style card system instead of the fixed hot-bar as it is not only faster but it also allows you to combo skills. But I do understand as I still use the initial setup because it's what I'm used to and can't be arsed to change it even though I should.

About other news site. I wouldn't mind more quality reporting on Linux, but I hope it won't hurt GOL efforts.

Quoting: liamdaweI've been shown a different log in IRC now https://irclogs.ubuntu.com/2017/04/07/%23snappy.html where Mir will stay for IoT devices.

That's weird. The reason they are dropping Mir is lack of manpower to reinvent the wheel. Why would they keep it now, if Wayland can work on IoT devices all the same?

Looks Shogun-y. Which is great - I would love to play that game again, although in my case it does not mean any new sales for Feral. Perhaps I'll check to see if I missed any DLCs.

Secretly I am hoping they use their Squeeeeenix connection and port Nier: Automata. We don't have many (any?) open world brawlers, and that one has been very well received.

As for the clue. Japanese tea company logo, and text that can be read out loud as "made to aid" or "maid to aid". Uhm, dunno where to go from that.

Total War Shogun 2, looks almost abvious, however they already ported it to Mac. So it might be something else.

The main benefit of this, is dropping of Mir. This removes the annoying and wasteful rift that Canonical were causing.

It was one of the most requested changes by the way. See http://blog.dustinkirkland.com/2017/04/thank-you-note-to-hackernews.html

Quoting: liamdaweHave they actually confirmed this anywhere? Mir wasn't mentioned in the initial post from Mark.

Yes, see above.

Quoting: liamdaweWell, I actually made a decision earlier about doing a new site for general Linux news. Will do a proper announcement on it later.

I totally understand some people have reservations about me doing it, but I will explain more when it's time to.
:-( As I said, there is enough redundancy already..... GoL was unique in terms of size, structure and community (there is also boilingsteam).

General news, oh, there are so many already.... Too bad Liam.
You asked the question, almost all answers were negative or neutral and you decided to go for it. I remember that going against your comminuty is seldom a great idea !
This is nothing to do with GOL, as stated. And actually, 99% of the time I do something "against the community" it ends up that I'm right ;) because the people who say that are usually the 1%.

He said "new site", so GoL should remain what it was.

Quoting: niarbehtHoly crap, you guys are getting shafted on banks.

Not so much lately. Even Sberbank implemented electronic queue and air-post system (tubes for fast document transport) and added couches to the room. And there are lots of options to get free (without upkeep) debit card (basically a credit card with zero overdraft) for anyone with a passport. So, wired transfers are something from the past.

Quoting: niarbehtThen again, have any of yours caused any financial collapses in recent memory? :P

Among the banks I used? No. But banks are exploding almost constantly. The prime reason is that there are a lot of precarious banks that were founded only for "money laundry" purposes. Apparently, it is insanely simple to open a bank here, every semi-big firm wants to own a bank just for salary distribution purpose. Some banks are virtual (without physical branches), so called "internet-banks". There are thousands of them!

Quoting: nitroflowJust want to point out that there is such a thing as virtual credit cards that you can create at will for online shopping without the need to even own a credit card(a debit card will suffice in my country). Not only can you do that but you can create single-use and multi-use credit cards. I realize this is not available in every part of the world though.

Do you mean like Paypal? Do you have example providers of such services to look at?

In my country(Portugal) there's a service called mbnet which most banks have a protocol with(mine only established that protocol a few years ago after being acquired by another bank) that you can activate through an ATM(thus being associated with a particular card) and you get a printout of your login data to the site mbnet.pt. After that you just go to the site and create a virtual credit card(visa) that you can use anywhere. You can create a multi-use credit card, so-called "merchant card" that becomes associated with a single merchant the first time you use it so it only allows payments to that specific merchant. However, some stores that use a third party like Stripe for example to do the payments you can't use that type of card because of that lock so you have to create a single-use card for every purchase you do.

EDIT: after a quick search I found this for Germany https://www.deutscheskonto.org/en/credit-card/

That's ok for me (I guess for everybody) as well (if it doesn't reduce GoL time too much).
As long as my game reading experience is not littered here... ;)

Quoting: EikeWow! Which country is this?

We used to have free bank accounts and free transfers (using forms way back in time), nowadays with low interest rates I pay I think 2 € per month and can have as many transfers as I want. I do them at my own computer. Really convenient and safe.

Russia. And the bank in question is Sberbank™. The bank so huge due to its Soviet Union inherited branch tree (where in most of the small towns it is the sole bank) that for the 20 years after collapse it simply refused to change and adapt, instead flushing through itself insane stream of pension and grave-money from the elderly. The year is 2009 (or so), yet in order to get your money you have to stand (literally!) a queue of 15 people in a small stuffy room, then stand near operator while ancient (yet cost-efficient!) dot-matrix printer fills your income-outcome ribbon. Classic!

And the game was pre-order (my first and only) for "OilRush" from Unigine. Apparently this whole deal with pre-orders were new to them also (and there were no native banking at the time) so they had chosen "ABN AMRO Amsterdam" as their bank. For a 600₽ base price I parted with 1040₽ that day. Nice interest, Sberbank, very nice!

Holy crap, you guys are getting shafted on banks.

Then again, have any of yours caused any financial collapses in recent memory? :P

Quoting: lucifertdarkI'd say GOL should stick to reporting & reviewing gaming & games, BUT on those odd occasions when something really big that affects Linux users pops up, like this particular story, then have at it.

I want to sign this. This U-Turn of Ubuntu is important for the Linux world (it turned up half a dozen times in a single day in a low profile Facebook Linux group I attend). This is important to know and discuss. For most ordinary Linux stuff I'd go elsewhere if I would want to know.

Stellaris: Utopia expansion released, some thoughts on the game as a whole now
By Philadelphus, 7 April 2017 at 12:30 pm UTC Likes: 1

QuoteFor a strategy game, there's a distinct lack of strategy when it comes to battles and that goes for ground battles too.
I believe you're confusing strategy with tactics. Strategy is choosing the composition and disposition of your forces to be most favorable to yourself, and choosing where and when you engage an enemy to stack the deck in your favor as much as possible. Moving fleets around the galaxy and choosing where you fight, that sort of thing. Tactics is controlling individual elements (like ships) of a battle, and isn't really a thing in any of Paradox's game—you're supposed to be winning the war at the "Sun-Tzu grand-strategy" level, not the "individual skirmishes of each battle" level. :)

(For the record I just picked up Stellaris last week, and am still very much in love with it, though I can see what you said about getting the same anomalies multiple times being a little annoying.)
