"vulkan is not mature enough for production use yet"

Surely it will be if no one uses it... Maybe this attitude is why they can't sell a single engine license.

Feral have patched the Vulkan Beta of Mad Max again, another look at performance with benchmarks
By Mountain Man, 12 April 2017 at 1:34 am UTC

Quoting: EgonautWhile the performance is much better with the Vulkan renderer, it's still heavily single core bound. I have around 100-140 FPS in the actual game (Ultra @1080p) but when I'm driving around the FPS drops very often below 60 FPS. When the FPS drops, always one core is at 100% load and GPU load goes down.

I don't expect any magical fix for this, since it's still a port and there will be always down sides. But instead of trying to get the max FPS more upwards, maybe Feral could try to get the load more balanced on threads, if possible. If I could have stable 60 FPS I would be more happy as with 100+FPS and drops below 60 :)
Well, it is still beta, so I suspect there's more optimization to come.

Quoting: HihiDanniThe controller issues sound weird.

Come to think of it, my DualShock 4 no longer seems to be reliably picked up by Rocket League, and Steam might have something to do with it. They introduced official DualShock 4 support in an update which seems to have disabled the generic joystick support by default. If I enable DualShock 4 support and connect my controller Steam outright crashes. So I have to use the generic support for now, which seems buggy for some reason?
Well at least I know now that Steam controller works. Tried it a few minutes ago and it just worked. (I am not using the SC driver. Only through Steams setup). It's sad to see only it works, out of the three controllers I have. =/

The PS, Xbox, and generic configuration settings enabled in big picture mode have always gave me problems. In fact I have the same issue you have with Rocket League if I have any of those enabled. R-L just will not find my controller with those enabled, but turning them off and my PS3 or 360 controller just works with no issues.

Quoting: UnholyVisionI have a i7-5820k & using a GTX 970. None the less I am running fine. Upon first launch Vsync was turned on so 60 cap. I turned that off in the setting menu and I am pushing 200+ fps. Depending on the area I sometimes jump to 300+ and others I go down to no lower than 120.

That sounds pretty good. I can probably divide that number by 2 to get an approximation (CPU is from 2010).

Septerra Core & Jack Orlando, two Wine-ports from Topware are now on GOG
By Drakker, 11 April 2017 at 11:55 pm UTC Likes: 1

Good thing to know Septerra Core works in wine, I still have my original CD and T-Shirt. And it was the first game to have my name in the credits! (I was running a website dedicated to the game back then) Great game, but its slow, the battles last forever with very slow and long animations. It could really use a speed up key like you get on console emulators.

Quoting: syxbitI kickstarted this. I originally paid for a Steam key, but then switched for a PS4 key. Mostly because Unity has a bad reputation on Linux, because I figured this sort of game was best played on a console/TV, and because I prefer my PS4 controller over my Steam controller.
I'm starting to regret my decision. Maybe I'll pick it up for cheap in a future Humble Bundle.
What is wrong about playing with the PS4 Controller on PC with Steam and Linux? This game might have some issues with that on launch day but generally spoken that works very well. My PC is connected to two screens and to the TV which I use for Controller games.

well, doesnt the steam client already use (some sort of) the panorama ui, does it? at least like browsing the steam store. it is just chrome/chromium running in the background.

No, that's Chromium. Panorama is only used for the Big Picture UI in the Steam client. It is also used heavily in DOTA2. The store is literally embedded Chromium and is unrelated.

Yes,it is.

Did you add Padoka Stable Ppa and update your drivers with it?

On Mint, you need to select 4. Level updates to see them on Update Manager.

Quoting: HihiDanniAny word on how well the Linux version performs? As someone who has a system that's more or less CPU-bound the large draw distance looks kind of scary to me.
This might not be what you're looking for, but I am a bit more CPU heavy with my system. I have a i7-5820k & using a GTX 970. None the less I am running fine. Upon first launch Vsync was turned on so 60 cap. I turned that off in the setting menu and I am pushing 200+ fps. Depending on the area I sometimes jump to 300+ and others I go down to no lower than 120.

The only big issue I am having is no controller works but the keyboard. In the sandbox (the pre-order playground) I could customize controls & even use any controller I wanted. However in the full game it has no way to change your keybinds for a keyboard or even a gamepad. Along with the fact 360 & PS3 controllers don't even work at all. (I haven't tried my Steam Controller yet. Though if what is said in the article works I might try it later & edit this post). I have just been gritting my teeth & using my keyboard so far. Because the keyboard mapping isn't that great. (My only other problem with this game is the camera. Sometimes it likes to get stuck in place so it makes some obstacles harder). (Edit: Well Steam Controller works like a champ).

Planescape: Torment: Enhanced Edition released with Day-1 Linux support, my review
By g000h, 11 April 2017 at 10:01 pm UTC

As much as I'm somewhat interested in the Enhanced Edition, I already own the original and feel the Enhanced one is priced too high for existing owners.

Also, while I'm being picky, I don't like the fact that the Original version is taken off the market now that the Enhanced Edition is released. You can still get the Original, but only as part of a purchase of the Enhanced Edition.

Feral have patched the Vulkan Beta of Mad Max again, another look at performance with benchmarks
By 1xok, 11 April 2017 at 9:37 pm UTC Likes: 1

Had a quick test:

Vulkan:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyNQRaELdoQ

OpenGL:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmlJX1hLo1I

My specs:
https://www.gamingonlinux.com/includes/ajax/call_profile.php?user_id=5136

Resolution was 1920x1080
Nvidia driver 378.13

OBS seems to cost me 2-4 frames. Without OBS I was almost always above 60 FPS with Vulkan. My system is decisive benefiting in the Stronghold benchmark, where I have now 60 fps nearly constantly.

The remaining scenes are also okay with OpenGL.

Good work Feral. Keep it up!

QuoteThe default configuration will not allow you to move the camera with the right pad while any other button is being used, including movement with the stick. This is a big problem for a game like this to not be able to move the camera while doing anything, so I highly recommend changing it to “Mouse Joystick”.

See https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/mad-max-released-for-linux-port-report-and-review-available.8368

This is the main reason why I don't get into this game until now. “Mouse Joystick” isn't nice. As a work around I have additionally configured the the gyro as mouse. But this is also not an optimal solution.

Any ideas?

I had the same issue. I've fixed it using Steam Controller Configuration available on "Community Configurations" that works well.

Thanks. Will try to find this.

It's probably something about the version of the drivers or X11 or something like that. I don't see why big picture would be a problem to run vulkan games.

I've never used steam os, but that's my guess.
