Quoting: AnxiousInfusionGreat to see this join Allied Assault and Tripwire's entries into the WWII genre! I'm guessing you don't need Insurgency installed in order to play?
No it's a standalone game.

Unity game engine 5.4 released, Linux builds now updated

(That game in particular could really use this update..)
Upgrading Unity versions isn't usually a simple matter, it can break all kinds of things. Not many games bother to do it.

I thought this API was a joke. Why the hell someone would support Apple idiocy instead of forcing them to implement vulkan ?
Haha, seriously? Double Fine using Vulkan instead of Metal would force Apple to support Vulkan? :D

In case you weren't joking: Metal's not that bad as an API, even if it's completely unnecessary and everyone would be better off without it. And if there was any hope of Apple supporting Vulkan, MoltenVK would not be a thing.

You make a fair point of why they didn't use Vulkan, and I think most reasonable people would agree that using Vulkan would be a no go for a project that started before Vulkan was released and also a no go since they obviously want OSX compatibility, but why not go with OpenGL. Are there some magic in DirectX11 that is nigh impossible to implement in OpenGL?

If I had to guess the issue is that their devs have experience and knowledge of DirectX and not with OpenGL so that is the way they went.

Empire TV Tycoon, thoughts from a Linux gamer
By soulsource, 28 July 2016 at 9:07 pm UTC

I've been playing this game a lot, mainly because I love the movie references (the NPCs in the building all are based on movie characters, the test-audience often comes up with quotes from the currently running movie, the actors you can hire are appropriately named and have matching skill sets,...).
This game has one negative (but not unrealistic) point though that hasn't been mentioned in the article: One needs to accumulate fame points in order to buy upgrades, which one needs to earn more fame points. This means, that there's a positive feedback loop. The player who first earns enough fame to upgrade their antenna network (what doesn't really take long and brings a huge boost in the number of potential viewers) has an advantage over all other players (as the channel with the highest total number of viewers will earn one fame point more than all competitors), making it extremely hard for them to catch up (or even impossible, if the second player to upgrade needs more than a few hours of ingame-time to do so). So, even though a game might run for several ingame-weeks, often it's already clear who is going to win after a few ingame-days.

oh freaking sweet. this is something I'll have to try my best to make some time for. It's been awhile since I've played an MMO. Played Guild Wars 2 from release day up until early 2014. I had a blast with the WvW style pvp, even though it really became more of a Zergfest. I was in a guild called Zombieland and then moved to the Shadow Gypsies when ZL broke up. Good times!

Would really like to take part in a GOL guild. this game seems like it will be a good GvG game. I'll probably wait until it's closer to final release though. to many games and not enough time right now :/ good times for Linux users though :)

When the game is officially out, I will likely make an official GOL guild, but no point until the official release as it's all wiped in a few months.

Microsoft gives the okay for SWORDY to come to Linux & SteamOS

Quoting: ElectricPrismSomehow I just take this as Microsoft porting to covertly try to collect data about Steam Console users.
It's not the first Microsoft game to come to Linux. Dust: An Elysian Tail is also a Microsoft title. It was a very strange feeling to boot up a native Linux game and see the Microsoft logo.

Let the irony flow, I would laugh when Halo Online starts to run on wine.

If so, that will be tremendous for debugging and optimizing unity games on Linux if so.

If you're talking about the Steam Controller, there is no need when SC Controller exists.

An excellent point! I wonder would itch.io consider incorporating sc-controller into their Linux client?

Oh, and while I'm thinking about it, What happens to sc-controller when Steam is launched? It seems like there would be conflicts. Is it necessary to shut sc-controller off before starting Steam?
You can turn SC Controller on/off on the UI.

Headlander, the new game from Double Fine Productions will not come to Linux

This is sad, but a good way for them to amend would be to open-source their Buddha engine, since it looks like they won't use it anymore. This way we could at least hope for community ports of headlander and some long awaited bugfixes in previous games.

Of course it's possible. It's just a wrapper after all. Might be harder the other way around though, who knows. And why would anyone bother?

I really like minetest. I wish there was more gameplay with it, though.
Cross-compatibility with minecraft servers would be awesome.

I don't think it is feasible.

My main grip with Minetest right now is the crafting and inventory lag(it is really bad) and the lack of a good mob system, most mobs are wonky at best.

Er, yes. I mean, why wouldn't it be? It's their game, they're free to do whatever they want with it.

Anyway... good thing there are a bunch of alternatives, though some of them might need a bit more work on the game feel.

I think the question he made is because of the promise mojang made a long time ago that everyone that bought would get all updates, on all supported systems.

Quoting: KithopThat still leaves the code from the old launcher or other modpack ones to be adapted, plus, right from the FTB homepage:

"Finally, work has started to test the viability of a Linux based client. The Curse dev team has a few Linux enthusiasts among them, so they're really excited about bringing the app to Linux."

I'm sure something will be sorted out. This is not any reason to panic. :)

As I said they won't keep updating it if they need to make one system for Windows-Mac trough the new launcher, and another for Linux, through the old launcher.

That if Microsoft doesn't say: There are too few people using the old launcher, we will stop updating it and people can keep using the new launcher." And then promise a update for Linux that will come at same speed of the Skype ones.
