Steam Machines are dead in the water according to Ars, not quite

I remember seeing somewhere it where it a comment said "The Phillips CD-i of gaming PC consoles." Please. Besides title support, I've been thoroughly happy with SteamOS. Early on, audio and display bugs were pretty bad, but with Intel/Nvidia hardware, I've had good luck. Even with my crap Gigabyte dual-BIOS, I made due. I love the idea of being able to control my system and have fun with it. It's my own personal toy. Build and add software I want, script, game, anything I feel like doing. If I knew how to design and code a competent UI, i'd happily distribute tools like my SteamOS-mega-downloader. I will use things like this when making USB drives again, since I am too lazy to buy more for some reason :)
However, in reality some things need large attention this year, or the media will just continue to spit on this:
1. Multimedia from an actual application-like interface. Using a browser is clunky, even if I do it and it's fine for me.
2. Game titles (no brainer, but I have way too much to play)
3. Broadcasting (why this isn't there is beyond me)
4. Source-SDK support
5. HTC Vive support
6. Accurate promotion while using the platform
7. Permanent wall space on major pages that feature new games / items.
8. More communication with the community, especially on the GitHub bug tracker. Most folks don't even know what is required, since their DIY page is vague on exactly what GPU's are supported. It's not hard to reference the current driver version's compatible cards and place that in a txt file.
9. Something, something, Dark Side....

Isn't Vendetta Online for Linux? Seemed to me it was. I don't pay for any MMOs anymore because they are kind of like old retro games for me. I will randomly be 'in the mood' to play them and then I get bored too quickly, and stop playing. I did that with Elder Scrolls Online and probably paid for the subscription for 6 months, 5 of which I never played it. Finally decided to cancel the sub, and by then it'd become free to play anyhow.
I'd rather just have them port Elite: Dangerous over, of course they'd need SteamVR support first, because now that I've played the game in VR, I don't think I could go back to a normal screen!
I did really enjoy Star Trek Online and Age of Conan, I get the craving to play those occasionally as well.
I'd rather have a closer knit group to play something like Neverwinter Nights, or some LAN game fun. Ha, about the only MMO I'd pay for and play a lot would be Ultima Online if they had a native client again.

But I like this idea, hopefully it can be an offical port later down the road.
We need an mmo on linux badly, and a sci fi one is the best one in my opinion.
I will probably try eve when the port is done ^^.

Ideas to celebrate :
- You sell a bundle of good games for 3 or 5$ on gamingonlinux
- some people give free keys to GoL supporter (with a game to win these keys)
- you dev a mini game like steam during winter/summer sales
- you contact feral to give away some free keys for tomb raider or x-com 2

It has some quirks. The audio never works out of the box, I always have to run pulseaudio -k, and alt+tab back to the game screen. The overlay screen makes the game crashes when I click on settings (probably other links as well). Nevertheless, my initial walk through was a, almost, "bug free" experience. I'm curious about the coop, but I've no plans to buy the "DI" remastered because I finished it already (with lots of coop issues), and none of my friends have DI: Riptide definitive edition.

I just bought a steam key for the Dead Island - Definitive HD Collection from www.okaysoft.de, absolutely legal, been buying games from that store for more than ten years now. You have to send them a copy of your ID card once though (games 18+).
(and I didn't care for the discount) ;)

After so much time I finally understood, that pairing Dualshock from UI in Ubuntu does not pair gamepad as Dualshock 4 but as a generic controller. Generic controller does not work with Don't Starve Together.
I've solved my issue by pairing Dualshock 4 using ds4drv application.

The most people of the community in-game as possible would be awesome. Maybe we could try to invade a MMORPG like WAKFU or Ryzom, what do you think?
Everyone sharing a screenshot of them playing their favourite game on Linux (playing on a window so we can notice it's Linux), if there is enough submissions that could be really cool as well (we would need a new module in the website to show the screenshot).

oh my, i remember when Eve had a cedega Linux build. they had to drop it in favor of newer engine designs for Windows. I was quite sad to see that. never really got into Eve that much, to much time sink for gaining skills. after you have a few million isk then all you do is set around waiting for skills to be learned, it's like watching paint dry.
I think I spent more offline time than online time with that game after a couple of weeks of playtime waiting on skills to be learned. I had joined a guild and even then the most fun I had was mining for a couple of hours. not my idea of a fun game.
