Turns out Blitzkrieg 3 won't come to Linux as soon as I hoped

Pffft, hat isn't needed. The tactic worked flawlessly with Kingdom Come: Deliverance and Carmageddon remake, why stop now? The old FOSS rule says: release early, release often; the new rule is: announce early, release never. Don't forget to grab the cash tho'!

Well, anyway, not everyone is bad. Even those who postponed (read: cancelled) the Linux version not necessarily are scammers. They just need to be open about issues with other platforms and post updates on their progress if there any or lack thereof. And of course, refund those who paid for the Linux version.

Quoting: MGOid-The rendering freezing problem is a radeonsi driver problem no? I think is a bug in the drivers released in Ubuntu 16.04. Anybody using Nvidia proprietary drivers have the same problem?
Nope, this was a different problem (running nvidia here). It was related to the SDL2 lib that Steam ships with (the one that's outside of the Steam Runtime), and seems to have been present since October or November. Removing that was enough to get it behaving as normal for me, and people have since reported that a Steam client beta update earlier this week resolved the issue for them.

I'll update the post to mention that.

Quoting: MGOid- In game game voice chat works for me, at least between Linux and Windows clients. Test your microphone in game (Shit+Tab, Configurations>voice), change the volume. If you change your speaker configuration (pressing Esc and going to the game's menu) during a match, voice chat stop work until the next map area is loaded.
Funnily enough, I had a game of L4D2 later in the week and voice chat was working for me and the other Linux users I was playing with. I guess it must've been working for me, but was borked up for the other podcast hosts when we tried.

Quoting: MGOid- In game text chat can be used by typing "Y".
Yep. This isn't very useful in a game like L4D where communication during tense situations is necessary though (even the Z menu is too cumbersome IMO).

In case someone missed it, HRM is currently available for an unbeatable price (as in pay what you want) in the Humble Eye Candy Bundle. And unless you're allergic to fun and/or puzzles, you need to buy this game. I spent a big chunk of my working hours today playing this programming puzzler instead of actually programming.

Ah - if only the Steam client supported such plugins!

Unlikely - it would be a security risk, I imagine.

Quoting: wyqydsyqActually I don't think PAYDAY2 is a good example. It was well received early on and only got review bombed when the devs began neglecting the community and releasing ridiculous amounts of DLC to the point where now to have the game and all the DLC you've got to spend over $100, then they also have microtransactions on top of that too. Since the reasons people gave negative reviews haven't been addressed, I'd say they're still relevant reviews to display.

I disagree. As a new player of a game that wouldn't be around today without those (completely optional) microtransactions, I'm delighted with the game and Overkill's approach to it.

Can't comment on "neglecting the community", except to say that the community was extremely vocal about having no micro-transactions and Overkill doing it anyway. Perhaps the outcry is because they'd previously said they wouldn't?

Thing is, that outcry appears to have wanted the game to die off rather than implement microtransactions. Which is a bit weird. And as I say, without their approach, I wouldn't be playing it today, so I'm pretty happy about it.

BTW, how do Overkill "address" the negative reviews?? Kill the game off? Or give everything away for free until they go bankrupt? I'm not really clear on what the negative reviewers are demanding, if I'm honest.

Here's an except that seems to sum it up:
QuoteA small company cannot be cut slack when they have the nerve to put microtransactions into their game.
I mean... how do you respond to an attitude like that? Is it so hard to ignore the DLC? Are you actually required to buy it, like in CoD or Battlefield? Nope. Its very existence is the issue here.

Crazy stuff.

It was made as it was a game we could all play together and give our impressions on. Something we have all found is that our Steam libraries for games is quite different between each of hosts. So we look for games we all have so we can give our impressions of them.

Yeaaah you missed the HL3 reference Matt lol :P.

I wish this were our clever scheme to leak the confirmation of HL3. But sadly we are nowhere near that organized, and also the game doesn't exist. Which is probably the bigger issue with that plan.

.... Or does it?

I also have less trust for professional reviewers than "ordinary people" commenting on games. Which isn't to say I particularly trust "ordinary people" commenting on games--rather, I trust most professional reviewers so little that my lacklustre opinion of average-people reviews looks good by comparison.
I like Shamus Young, though.

Linux now has a proper Golf simulator! Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf sees a day-1 release

I played already e few hours during early access, and its a very good game. possibly the best golf sim on PC right now. Its nice to play a few holes in order to relax. The only drawback: there is no career mode. So, right now, there is no long term motivation, but the basics are very solid. I hope they will publish a career mode later.....

Quoting: BeamboomThey should implement real reviews to the interface instead, that'd be a vast improvement in my opinion.
The metascore rating seems to be optional for the publisher - I wish it was mandatory, with a tabbed option to see "user reviews" or "professional reviews".

i really disagree with that.. i dont like scoring system at all .. also i dont trust "proffesional reviewers" they are often paid to say good things about games and so on... If you look at that metascore site.. you see lots of those where proffesional reviews are completely opposite of the user reviews.

i prefer steam's system and now with that update its even better.

i will just read few of those reviews and can decide.. ofc some sort of gameplay video (unbiased) to confirm if i would like this game.

Yes, either they should take the OS the browser reports into consideration (and not just SteamOS), or have some kind of switch you can set in the preferences.

I was interested in this game until someone on the Steam forums pointed out that a significant chunk of reviews for this game are from obvious shills (one game in their account, one review). As much as I love golf sims, I really can't support that kind of unscrupulous activity on the part of the developers.

It's hard to avoid comparisons to Dark Souls, particularly given I think it's illegal to talk about fantasy ARPGs with epic soundtracks without mentioning Dark Souls at least once. But I think Melkemind has the right of it, this owes more of its heritage to the more flamboyant Devil May Cry style. This could be a real winner, based on the flash alone. Hopefully it runs as well as the trailer suggests.

I did the game benchmarks in my other old computer:

Xubuntu 15.10 64bits
Intel Core 2 4400 (2x2Ghz)
3GB DDR2 RAM
Nvidia GT440 1GB (352 driver, 1280x1024) IT WORKS!!!!

LOW
Min: 20.5
Max: 42.1
AVG: 34.0

MEDIUM
Min: 17.8
Max: 32.6
AVG: 26.8

HIGH:
Min: 15.7
Max: 27.6
AVG: 21.3

The game is playable in Low settings. I think that with a little better Dual CPU, and a better 400 nvidia series GPU, the game could be playable in medium or high settings

It appears to be a JRPG but the studio is American run out of Washington. Eastern developers have only just started paying any attention to PC at all, so it will be a right of passage for Linux when they consider it as a target platform.
