Hi guys,

I'm actually the lead developer for heroes of forevia. I know on the surface asking for double the pledge for a Linux port is excessive but there are two caveats to that:

A) $10,000 is just the amount we are looking for to shore things up. We've spent more than that ourselves in the last year on art and other assets for the game.

B) We are going to push for a Linux port regardless of the final pledge amount. Since we've spent countless hours programming already, it's more of a time issue getting what we have over to the right platform. $10k is the price tag to have that done by a 3rd party. We can do it ourselves, it's just that without the extra cash we can't list it as a sure thing to be ready when the Mac / PC version is.

Just think of it this way: Wasteland 2 is asking for an extra $500k to do their Linux port (which is reasonable depending on the engine technology they plan to use). We're just asking for enough bread and water to make it happen, indie style. (btw the devs at inxile are pretty cool people, they've backed or project as well).

You guys can drill us via email as well (we don't mind). Mine is Anthony at popflame.com

I'd agree with Beherit, that almost sounds like they are trying use the linux community just for the advertising.

Yeah, that did seem rather excessive. Shame really, as the game looks interesting.

20.000 to develop a port in Linux while already developing a Mac version? That's insane.

Banner saga looks promising.

Tiberium Alliances open beta
By Alex V.Sharp, 25 March 2012 at 9:34 pm UTC

I don't know. I like the CnC universe (at least up till Tiberium Wars) but this seems like just another browser game which usually end up boring due to too time consuming micromanagement. I'll give it some more attention to see where it's at...

Added a couple of sentences, not sure I can write much more about the game itself, I only spent a couple of minutes with it so far.

Their email support was quite fast to reply, even if it was just to say "we'll look into that".

Quoting: "Cheeseness, post: 3759, member: 122"I haven't had any problems with Shank or SMB myself.

Assuming you've already identified, subscribed to and submitted any extra details you might have to relevant bugs on the icculus.org bugzilla, it wouldn't hurt to shoot an email to the [email protected] as well (including relevant bug numbers). Maybe they can get Icculus' attention (or one of the other people working on maintaining the Humble Bundle ports).

Yep, done and done.

The most frustrating is the Anomaly people. The forum seems to only be monitored by some sort of helpdesk person, with no way of contacting the devs directly. If nothing else it might be possible to sweet-talk someone with an @intel.com address to contact them. Hopefully that's harder to ignore than just mere customers...

These are mostly problems with the later bundles, yes. I got a reply now that they're looking into the problem with ZB2. I also asked about proper updates for Shank and SMB.

QuoteBut I am leery about Team Meat. They do not seem to really care about us.

Yeah, though I'm not sure if it's bad of HIB to support not-so-Linux-friendly devs, or a good idea as there wouldn't have been much chance of a port otherwise?

Well, I do not have any Humble Bundle after Introversion, but I have not had that many problems, at least not many that I have not been able to solve.

Granted, I had to fix the Trine problems myself, but I am not unhappy with the support guy I talked to. It is just I was a bit more competent on Linux issues than he was.

There were some problems with Dungeons of Dredmor, but they put out an update.

And this is all on the R600 Gallium3D Drivers. So that has not really been my problem.

As for the latest ones, well, I can not really comment. But I am leery about Team Meat. They do not seem to really care about us.

Quoting: "Xpander, post: 3760, member: 92"i guess open source drivers still the common issue for some games with more gaphical detail or features and also some sound problems that have been plagued linux quite some time.
i myself havent run into those tho. but i have been using prop drivers with my ati card when i had it and now with nvidia as well.

The thing is that these were bugs _in the games_ not the drivers. But Nvidia and AMD doesn't follow the specs, so Mesa ends up taking the blame.

Up to the Voxatron Debut, I've had no problems either (except Cortex Command, which stopped receiving updates to the Linux version, but it's a beta). Binding of Isaac is terribly slow on any machine, while works well under wine. Then there was SMB, where the community part does not work. I personally didn't have any problems with Shank, but I guess I was just lucky.

Before they started including Team Meat games, the Linux support was great. But Team Meat does not care at all. They did not even advertise the bundles (the ones they were in) on their website. That's my way of measuring as to whether the dev cares or not.

Have you contacted the Humble Bundle guys as well as reporting problems to the developers?

I haven't personally encountered any of the problems you're mentioning.

- Zen Bound 2 silently fails to start with Mesa drivers. You need to manually disable antialias in the game config. Considering that they asked for Linux beta testers and promised include Mesa devs with the beta testers this should have been caught and fixed.

- Still no fixes for Shank and Super Meat Boy. One needs to dig around in the bug tracker to find patches.

- Anomaly Warzone Earth from the first Android bundle is still broken. It was broken when it was first released (I could repeat the gripes about testing again here) and it's still broken in the latest update (which we waited a month for) with no word whatsover from the developers.
