Quoting: GBeeHas anyone come across good deals on either the MSI Gaming or Asus Strix GTX 1080?
Depends on where you live, deals are different for each country often.

Quoting: ajgpI will have to look at donating at somepoint, but family comes first especially around Christmas (bloody expensive time of year) so it may have to wait til the new year.

I know all too well how expensive this time of year is, multiple birthdays to deal with!

Quoting: ajgpHowever; If I may put a comment across regarding the site, my only concern with donating is the content of the twitter feed. I personally agree with your political leanings and share your concerns about privacy etc. However I feel that perhaps these comments are more suited to personal twitter accounts rather than the one associated directly with the site.
While I can see where you're coming from, I feel it's important to highlight things like privacy especially when someone is directing it at our official Twitter account.

If only Twitter had a way to filter to only our tweets so people who weren't interested in retweets could do so, that would be sweet.

Ballistic Overkill, the cheap and fun online FPS updated with a new progression system and weapon skins

Quoting: operaLooks interesting. I really would like to play a CoD like game in the living room with a controller. According to steam site infos this game doesn't have controller support. Hope this will come in a future update.
That's what the Steam Controller is for ;)

QuoteI'm a huge fan of FPS progression and customization, so this game really speaks to me.

I know it's considered sacrilege to speak good of it in the gaming community but this is a key element that made Call of Duty multiplayer so enjoyable. Would you say this game provides a similar experience?
It didn't, until this update. I also entirely agree with you that what makes Call of Duty so damn fun (before they over-did the re-hashes) was the player customization.

It's not as in-depth as Call of Duty, but this is only the start.

It has certainly got me interested in Ballistic Overkill again, it just makes it feel like it's much more worth putting time into.

You can see what they are working on right now too: https://trello.com/b/Sw21AFJx/ballistic-overkill-public-task-lists-vote-on-what-you-want-in-the-game (they have lots of good stuff planned and generally deliver on them too!)

The maps even feel a little like CoD, as they are small, focused and interesting to play on.

Quoting: GuestI want to pay. I really, really want to pay. But you see I'm committed to not paying for Windows/wine/eOn games (...). And so I'm conflicted about paying for a site that so supportive of them.
Reporting news on a specific technology does not equate to supporting or encouraging it. If some developer makes a game run on Linux using Wine or eON, I sure do want to know about it. Even if I may choose not to buy it.
A good point thanks for explaining it better than I could have at the time :)

Quoting: buenaventuraI had essentially given up gaming (which was too bad since it is very important to me) since going over to GNU/Linux for other reasons, GoL has helped me get back into it!
Thanks for the kind words, it's really pleasing to hear!

Quoting: Tchey5€ a month feels too much for the content of the website, i would pay 1€ or 2€, without premium, only to support "somehow", like i support other websites like general news (not video game related, i mean world news) and other topics.
Hey! No worries at all, if you don't think it's worth it then feel free to continue to read for free. Part of the point of Patreon is so that not everyone has to do it at all, but thanks to the people that do we have no annoying adverts and never will. We will never time-lock articles for certain groups of people either thanks to it.

If there's things I can do to make you think it may be worth it, by all means let me know :)

Quoting: cRaZy-bisCuiTYou also have my bow, my axe and all that stuff now! :'D
I shall accept those weapons and use them to defeat our foes! <3

Quoting: BlackBloodRumHey Liam,

You might want to check this out:
https://letsencrypt.org/

I use this on several servers and enables me to add SSL to all my projects for free :-D.

Just sayin' you could save some money regarding the SSL ;).
Thanks, I am keeping an eye on it for when the current one runs out :)

Quoting: Avehicle7887People have to keep in mind that Liam doesn't just write articles, he also benchmarks games, contacts developers/publishers when required and of course work on the GoL website itself.
You would be surprised at the amount of time that actually gets spent on replying to developer emails and giving them release advice. So many developers have my private email address as it's on some indie developer contact list it's crazy.

Can easily end up being 1-2 hours a day on emails alone. That may not sound like much, but it sure does add up.

Quoting: TiedemannI wanted to sign up just to pay for a year at a time cause I hate subs on web sites I never use for anything (patreon in this case). But after signing up I found out I can use PP and that was a nice surprise. I only saw CC posts in the help section.

Not that I'm a big fan of PP but it's one site less to manage payments on since I have to use it for other things :)
Thank you <3 every single penny helps me continue :)

You will need to update your udev rules for the Steam Controller

Quoting: tmtvlWait a minute... "sudo gedit"? That shouldn't work. Unless you've got sudo aliased to xdg-su, kdesu, gksu, or something like that.
It has always worked for as long as I can remember.
