The original Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light Complete Edition enter the GOG Preservation Program

Quoting: GeamanduraWhy the original releases and not the Redux later editions? It seems like a waste of effort.
The Redux versions are already availble on GOG, and a lot of people consider the original release of 2033 to be superior to the Redux version. That original version hasn't been available to purchase on PC anywhere for years.
OK thanks for the tip, I honestly could not have imagined that a company put the effort to make a re-release (the Redux) that somehow ended up worse, so that the community would desire the original release. I mean aside from Blizzard with that Warcraft 3 re-release and Rockstar with the GTA 3 series re-release. But those are made by the orcs from Lord of the rings, so I assumed a company manned by humans such as the Metro makers would just not do that. Really sad to hear.

OpenTTD devs clarify store changes with Transport Tycoon Deluxe re-release as Atari contribute server funding

Do they? On what basis? I'm honestly curious, because this is a different game, and while the origin or the spiritual connection is obvious, there are so many games out there with clones that coexist. Just look at all the Minecraft-like games.
Because it's not different game, it's based on IP they own.
As long as OpenTTD doesn't redistribute or monetize TTD or include code output from reverse engineering TTD binaries they are untouchable.

ScummVM v2026.1.0 is a huge new release with tons of new supported games

Quoting: ArehandoroExactly. My question to @Geamandura was semi-rethorical, it probably wasn't clear enough, to make a point that OpenMW or Heroes would not fit the ScummVM ideology.
You cannot be rhetorical with that, since the whole world doesn't agree with you that 2D point and click is the same as 3D first person. Hence you would first need to present an argument why you consider a fully fledged advanced graphics 3D first person game (Penumbra) the same as a 2D point and click, and thus under this principle, fully congruous to be included in ScummVM.

This was always an amazing project to provide a 2D adventure game engine, but I genuinely don't understand what are they doing now with including separate engines for running a 3D game Penumbra. At this point what stops them from e.g. including OpenMW, including the Heroes 2 and Heroes 3 open source engines, etc.? What is the purpose of this project morphing into a bundle of their initial vision engine plus more and more unrelated random shit?

They could have simply paid one of the million starving contract artists on Fiver or whatever forums 20 bucks to get a cool banner. It's insane they chose not to.

GOG job listing for a Senior Software Engineer notes "Linux is the next major frontier"

If GOG really thinks about the customer experience first, they should prioritize opening their API for the already existing multiple Linux launchers to work as good as possible, which would be a low hanging fruit, and only then the possibly long term effort for Galaxy itself.

P.S. I'm honestly sadly surprised at the bad blood my fellow Linux gamers seem to have for GOG, for whatever petty reasons you are listing, are you forgetting these guys are the only ones with downloadable DRM free games fighting against "you'll own nothing and will be happy"? Get your heads out of your asses it's not like GOG have been swimming in Steam profits and just took some wrong ideologic decisions.
