Quoting: dubigrasuHey mrdeathjr, does NVENC affects performance in any way?

Is better option than with simple screen recorder gains around 15 to 20% more cpu power for example simple screen recorder use around 25 to 30% in screencasting meanwhile nvenc use only 8 to 10% (in game results represents around 20% more fps performance)

However NVENC still using low latency high quality profile dont have same quality of simple screen recorder

QuoteOf all the DiRT titles, this is the one I want to play the least, figures. Oh well, still cool it's possibly coming to Linux.
Same here, but maybe it's worth to say that DIRT 3 runs very well on latest wine versions (> 1.7.37)

how did you install it ? Steam for windows then just wine 1.7.37 ? or are you using Play on Linux ?. Every time I install steam for windows on linux and then install a game it never runs or has an error message ?

doesnt Dirt3 use games for windows live or something you need to register or sign into?

Im running closed source nvidia drivers on a gtx760.

If you have dirt 3 complete edition, GFWL has been removed

However in my test recommends 346.72 drivers especially for this game, because 352 series have loss performance however in 352.21 improves a bit but not run equal than 346.72

Wine 1.7.45 + 346.72

Yes this is correct however native version is better (normally more performance) dont matter use eON in this case

As commented before this test have relation more than nvidia drivers than wine but is good know because sometime ago talks about nvidia drivers upper 349 give drop performance in bioshock infinite (eon port = wine based)

In this tests with mirrors edge and dirt 3 appears some interesting thing about this

Mirrors Edge

Wine 1.7.45 + 352.09

Wine 1.7.45 + 346.72

Dirt 3 in this test have used same cars (metro and audi quattro) in same courses (finland-day and norway-night)

Wine 1.7.39 + 349.12

Wine 1.7.45 + 346.72

Respect mirrors edge have more fps (around 10 to 20fps more depending scene) but in dirt 3 is most notorius (around 20fps more in finland-day with metro and around 25fps more in norway-night with audi quattro)

However in other cases performance remains similar

For both test have used nvidia-thread optimization introduced in this pcsx2 linux version

PCSX2 04-06-2015 + 352.09

Quoting: wojtek88I have to say I'm impressed what wine can do this days. I have finished Witcher 1 Enhanced Edition on wine 1.7.x (with some minor bugs) and it was very smooth. Now I'm playing DIRT 3 and it works very well too. Some time ago I was playing Diablo 3, and quality was also very good.

I know that this is not Steam related topic, but I want to write small off-topic sentences. I have to say that in my opinion Valve should use PlayOnLinux to wrap some games that work very good on different wine versions and use PlayOnLinux in native steam client with some special marker (like SteamOS logo with small wine cup part for example). From my point of view if it would be seamless for the user but it would make "porting" of some titles to simpler, then why not to use this opportunity. Because let's be honest - some older games can have higher hardware requirements than on Windows and it will still be ok - right now Valve's main goal should be to create big library of big titles. Second step would be to convince big companies to use Vulkan API. It would convince more users to switch to Linux - and it would make this market more attractive to big companies.

Anyway, going back to wine - I'm waiting for DX10 support. This would make giant step forward. But having DX9 support with DX12 on the road makes wine not useable for newer titles. Hope guys from Wine development team will find a solution for DX10 and maybe even DX11 at some day.

And last thing - @mrdeathjr I am impressed with Your work. Whenever I wonder how does the game work on the wine I hope I will find Your movie on the Youtube. Hope You will continue this great work.

Yeah actually wine must be capable runs many games (DX9 and before have many titles) and improve day by day

In my case stay waiting CSMT in oficial branch, wine 1.8 when give huge improvements compared to 1.6

DX10 and others maybe in long term, mainwhile some titles begins appear in native form (eon ports included)

At least thanks, main objective of channel is give some idea about wine compatibility and some idea about time gameplay and things related with this (bugs, config tricks and others depending title)

Quoting: legluondunetWith PlayOnLinux you can download easily the latest Wine version, vannila and staging, in 32 or 64 bits. You can even associate different WIne version for your WIndows apps.

Also good idea too and as you said allows use different wine versions, however you dont send bugs or other related problems to wine because playonlinux (playonlinux for them count as wine patched version for now) results dont acccepted by wine

However if you use playonlinux, gamersonlinux have many usefull guides for many games
