Valve announces new rules for games with AI Content on Steam

I'm going with yes.

AI enables people who are creative but don't give a shite about coding. Just like one can sing beautifully without knowing eff all about what notes and structure there might be on paper.

I think many old schooling gatekeepers will be surprised what creative people can come up with using AI as tool. Like a synthesizer in music maybe. The creative landscape is getting larger. It's the same type of people enabled on different ground who always found math uninteresting in life but are great writing touching poetry.

Maybe we are heading towards a kind of Star Trek world where we talk to computer for instance and get stuff :woot: i remember the Linux creator too already said long time ago that keyboards are very bad for human communication ..

GE-Proton 8-25 released, should fix a bunch of early 2000s games

Quoting: dr_vincentUsing "Gear Lever" can make managing your appimages a bit less hassle:

Installs and updates are drag and drop once you have downloaded them.
So in other words 3rd party solutions are needed to make AppImages "less hassle" (which still obviously remains an unnecessery hassle because of AppImage design). I also hear that the AppImage main developer is stubborn, for example refusing Wayland support altogether. What... (correct if this is not true, sounds unbelievable).

Quoting: BrokattMy mistake. I don't use Appimage as if find it tedious to, find the file and right click, open in terminal, everytime I want to run them.
They are tedious for many, especially on Ubuntu: not only you have to setup the system to handle AppImages, after that downloading each AppImage package one has to chmod it too for running. Then again AppImages don't self update either, so this procedure has to be done every time getting a new version. So unnecessarily complicated and backwards IMO.

Flatpaks and snaps are more of a common handy ways, really.

Quoting: BrokattI am also a Kubuntu user, you have to have Flatpak for this. It's not available either as a snap or deb. If I remember correctly you have to open Discover, go to settings and enable flathub. If I am wrong you can follow these instructions: https://flatpak.org/setup/Kubuntu [External Link]
No you don't have to have Flatpak.

ProtonUp-Qt is available as AppImage.

https://github.com/DavidoTek/ProtonUp-Qt/releases [External Link]
For both of these, flatpak and appimage, additional setting up through terminal prompt is required on Ubuntu. Obviously we would need a snap -and or a deb package for ProtonUp-QT.

Less and less people are willing to tinker nowadays on Linux such as Ubuntu and ones based on it. And as that, people just state "fuck it" if there is no simple couple of click install. Not good nor bad i suppose, just the way it's starting to be.

Open source NVIDIA Vulkan driver NVK hits Vulkan 1.0 conformance

Quoting: dziadulewiczWhy in the world must the damned drivers be closed in this day and age!
Because of Windows. Nvidia's market dominance over competitors was in no small part due to software support. And while the core driver might not be as critical (since they are opening up portions of that), it's probably tied into the rest as well. This is not about Linux, it's about everything that nvidia supplies that makes them stand out.
How about just no. AMD and Intel provide open drivers. It is only a matter of time when these kind of things open up at Nvidia too, this model is past. There is no excuse, really.

Heroes of Might and Magic II game engine fheroes2 v1.0.10 released

Quoting: LinuxerHow do i instal this on Ubuntu ? i can't much understand whats here https://github.com/ihhub/fheroes2/blob/master/docs/INSTALL.md [External Link] and the flatpak doesn't work :dizzy:
Flatpak support isn't installed in Ubuntu by default. Just install that, and THEN install a flatpak and it should work.

There is no Snap package, at least not yet: https://snapcraft.io/search?q=fheroes2 [External Link]

Edit: i made a request to Snapcrafters: https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/fheroes2-open-heroes-of-might-and-magic-ii-snap-package/37812/2 [External Link]

Polychromatic app for managing Razer devices v0.8.3 out now

Quoting: Liam DaweWould be a lot easier if it was just on Flathub.
THIS! Exactly! It is beyond me, why so many key projects will not just provide a flatpak in Flathub or a snap in Snap Store.

I'm totally not surprised getting overwhelmed trying to install this. Usually when normal people click a Download button they expect and get a simple package and the installation can start the next minute. But here clicking Download, you get:

Open source NVIDIA Vulkan driver NVK hits Vulkan 1.0 conformance

The sooner we get rid of Nouveau the better. Or better if Nvidia would start providing open drivers. Why in the world must the damned drivers be closed in this day and age! Opening up would lessen Nvidias own work as an additional benefit. But no.
