Megaquarium: Freshwater Frenzy is a fantastic addition to a great game

Quoting: randylThe intro and tutorial are well presented which I think is important in a sim/builder. The graphics aren't fancy, but it looks good and so far I'm enjoying it.
Yeah, I think the campaign does a very good job of easing you into the game's systems, which are quite complex and intricate when you're finally playing with everything in the final scenario (or in the free-play mode). I'm playing the new Freshwater Frenzy campaign and it's doing a similar job of slowly teaching all the (many!) new features.
When I first started playing I didn't think building would get so complex. I've looked at some screenshots on the Steam community page and they are amazing. The new DLC looks very meaty. I'll be picking it up when I finish the first campaign.

One aspect I like about building strategies is how you can choose to build natural style or use more tech/pumps. There is a lot of diversity to building.

If this is a fancy shmancy way of saying integrated cash shop in HTML 5 then this isn't great news at all. We have way too much of that in the industry now, like 100% too much of it.

Theme park builder 'Parkitect' now uses the Vulkan API on Linux

This is good news. Parkitect is on my short list for the Steam summer sale. I've been waiting for it to cook and mature a little. It looks to be shaping up nicely. It's cool of them to leave the openGL alternative available if needed.

Have some physics fun with Poly Bridge 2, now released for Linux

I have the first game and I can't really get interested in this sequel. Poly Bridge 2 doesn't seem like it expands on the game play loop very much at all. It really feels much more like a DLC than a new game. The game play loop is very repetitive and focused and Poly Bridge 2 doesn't appear to expand on that at all. It begs the question why didn't they put that back into their first game, improving it like Factorio or No Man's Sky, instead of bumping up the price by 50% and selling it as a new release? Linux support seems to be an afterthought which also raises caution flags regarding ongoing support.

Apparently I lack a bit of self-control. I picked it up last night along with Hero of the Kingdom The Lost Tales 1. The intro and tutorial are well presented which I think is important in a sim/builder. The graphics aren't fancy, but it looks good and so far I'm enjoying it.

Megaquarium is on my short list to pick up during the Steam Summer Sale (whether it's on sale or not). Parkitect is the other sim/builder I plan on picking up.

Interviewed - Veloren, an upcoming FOSS multiplayer voxel RPG

Quoting: scaineIs there a PPA for Veloren? That us Ubuntu/Mint peeps can subscribe to keep the game up to date?
If you don't find a PPA there is this self-updating Airshipper client they link to on their download page. https://www.songtronix.com/ [External Link] I'm not sure why it's on another domain. It makes little sense to me, but there is the an official option for self-updating. If you use Flapaks and Flathub, Veloren has a package through there as well.

Quoting: tuubiNice one. Bought.

I like that it doesn't all just appear in my library, but I get to pick and choose. I'm not likely to ever play or use much of the content in the bundle.
If they don't show up in the library how do you know which titles you can pick out of the bundle?

edit: I noticed they've blown past $500K already and have set a $1M goal.

Quoting: randylThe future, at least for mainstream OS's, will be immutable system images in a containerized app environment, like Fedora Silverblue, CoreOS, and others.
(Little kid voice) Why?
Haha, I got a good chuckle out of 'little kid voice'. I can relate.

It's just a hunch and opinion based on the goals immutable images are supposed to accomplish. I believe the idea is to improve core OS stability, reliability, and upgrade management while keeping customization to container based environments in userland. It should offer more consistent and focused OS development and maintenance. I don't think the traditional approach will go away, but rather mainstream distros will move to something like this. The idea behind this tech makes a lot of sense to me, but I also think it has a long way to go before it's mature and ready for mass consumption.

Good interview. I installed Veloren (through Flatpak) after reading the previous GoL article. I like the project energy and positive community attitude. The systems are still rough. It's definitely in alpha state, but still very solid for where it's at.
