Nice write-up Phil. I love data analysis.
My base system has changed from Intel to AMD over that time (4790 -> 3700X). My video card is Nvidia but I plan on upgrading once AMD releases their cards this fall. I'm not very impressed with Nvidia's release, but will wait to compare them once I can see good results from Phoronix, Anand, and a few others.
Since early 2019 I've gone the other direction with monitor count. I had 3 at work and 2 at home. I'm now single monitor in both places. Now I prefer to use workspaces or just minimize remote desktops. For my workflow I found it didn't increase productivity, just spread my mess out across more screens and take up more space.

Quoting: MohandevirI think you're right. I asked about this on Discord and it was explained that the developers need to make a Stadia Linux compatible binary that can leverage Angle and the various DX compatible API translators like DXVK. So with Stadia everything is basically running natively against their Stadia Linux build. Now we just need to encourage studios and publishers to sell that build on other store fronts like Steam, Humble, GoG, etc.Quoting: randylYou right in saying that Stadia doesn't push Linux desktop adoption, but we benefit from Google's contribution to open source. They regularly push patches upstream that benefits to Linux desktop.Quoting: fleskThat may be true in some cases but not true in a lot of other cases. It seems like the compatibility layers and shims to make Windows games run on Linux could be the biggest benefit. Destiny 2 was not written with Linux in mind as far as I know, but ran really well on Stadia. Is Google sharing that technology openly with the rest of Linux land? If not and it isn't GPL, then Google isn't doing much to move things forward at all in my opinion.Quoting: 3zekielStadia unquestionably has more positive repercussions for us, since it forces developers to adapt to Linux and Vulkan, whereas Luna makes that completely irrelevant. No matter what you think of streaming, Stadia is clearly a better deal for our ecosystem than Luna or GeForce Now.Quoting: Liam DaweNot that it matters to the vast majority (us Linux fans don't count for much...) it's based on Windows https://twitter.com/JeffGrubb/status/1309271277325049856?s=20 [External Link]I wonder, should we jump on the stadia train for now? I mean, they are the only one who kinda support us for now... Do you think that a strong stadia will encourage more devs to go for Linux ?
As for the specific case of Destiny 2, I may be wrong, but the problem is well known, if I remember correctly. It's related to Destiny's custom anti-cheat. It's been removed in the Stadia build and it's what causes a lot of problem on the desktop.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyThat controller is the spitting image of an Xbox One wireless controller with an extra mic button below the main "Xbox/Luna" button and the 3 control buttons (mic, menu, meta) arranged in a triangle. I have this one in blue/gray. https://www.xbox.com/en-US/accessories/controllers/grey-blue [External Link]Quoting: elmapulbtw, purple is my favorite collor, so this background is automagically beautyfullI heartily endorse the purpleness of it.
and the name is a perfect fit.
but the controller, looks like some one just glued togheter 2 pieces to pretend they were just one...
hopefully i'm right and you can change the base depending on your hands size...
The controller has a bit of purple theme going, too, so it's not all bad.

I'd be down to try a Linux kernel and posix based Windows desktop. The things that annoy me greatly about Windows are drive letters, ntfs, and user file permissions. It's mostly backend stuff I'd like changed. The front end isn't too bad. I usually end up configuring my Linux DE (Gnome or KDE) to have a bottom task bar with much like Win7/10. A Windows DE built on Systemd and EXT4 or BTRFS sounds interesting.

Quoting: KimyrielleMicrosoft does want people to use Office 365, but I'd also say it works great in the browser especially for everyday use. I've been using that on my Linux desktop for 90% of the stuff I do. For Excel work with data connections I do use the desktop version on Windows. I could see them adding a desktop Linux version of this if the money is there to make it worthwhile. There are already desktop apps for Teams, VSCode, and Azure Data Studio (a database query and scripting tool built on VSCode).Quoting: x_wingWake me up when they release office.Unlikely. MS wants everybody to use Office 365 anyway, and is very likely to make local versions less and less desirable over time, until the elbowed everybody into their cloud. The last thing they're likely going to do is add new platforms to stand-alone office.

I will use it for my work browser, like I do on my Windows desktop. I use Firefox for my personal browser because I've become quite addicted to their 'container' plug-in, but I also have chromium-freeworld (a Fedora packaged, hardware enabled chromium) for stuff like Stadia and Google services. Microsoft Edge is a lot like Vivaldi and people who have used that browser will find it familiar.

The fan design looks good. I noticed 2 8-pin connectors on the card which implies this generation of flagship cards will be power hungry regardless of team colors.
My current card is a 1660ti and it has a lot of life left in it. I do plan to upgrade this generation depending on real world test results from Phoronix, Anand, and others. Unless early testing shows some remarkable results for either Nvidia or AMD I'm likely to wait a few months though to let inevitable issues get sorted out. Also, I'd like to see what later card spins, like the 3060ti and analogous AMD model, look like before jumping into the first gen offerings.

While not really my kind of game, it looks really well done. I love that the ship icon is similar to the original Asteroids game. It reinforces the retro-nostalgia feel.

Pamac was one of the things I really liked about Manjaro when I used it. It worked well and let me experience a slice of Arch. T'm not a fan of their theming or color schemes, but it was a reasonably polished and integrated distro.
