Will anything dethrone the Steam Deck? Probably not

I have sold mine. Steam Deck is a really nice piece of hardware but it has limitations and after a year I have decided that I prefer my desktop / laptop.

Horizon Forbidden West system requirements up, devs mention 'portable gaming devices'

Tsushima? Of course.
Horizon Forbidden West? Kinda meh,... both are Sony template OW though.

Move over Diablo 4 and Path of Exile as Last Epoch 1.0 is here

I dunno. I bought it, I am playing it, it is fun but... I am still returning to D4.
Graphic of LE is sorta childish, comics like. The story so far is "meh".
Gameplay good though...

I cannot find any info about cross play, which is a must I think.

Helldivers 2 rated Playable for Steam Deck by Valve

Quoting: CybolicWell, I'm glad the choice is here, but I'm already soured on the game from its DRM introduction.

Has anyone here played it; is it any good? Watching that trailer got my hopes slightly up from the Paul Verhooven-ish "Are We The Baddies" intro, but the rest of the gameplay seems to completely drop that tone, so it looks like just another bro-shooter. Is there more to it?
Medium / low is not very stable in the heat of battle and fps drops a lot. I am going with everything Low and FSR Performance and even then it fluctuates between 22 - 41 fps.

Linux remains above macOS on the Steam Survey for January 2024

Mac gaming is moving to Mac App Store.
Is there any evidence for this, though? I can imagine that Apple Arcade might be a "hit" in terms of theoretical user numbers, because many people will get it as part of their Apple One bundle. But it's hard to find a paid game on the Mac App Store that reaches even 100 reviews. One of the top games, Stray, comes close in the US (whoohoo): https://apps.apple.com/us/app/stray/id6451498949?mt=12 [External Link]

I actually like Apple things and the MAS (sandboxing!), but all the Apple fans I know either have a Switch for gaming, or a Quest 3, or a separate gaming PC.

Quoting: HighballIn ten years when all those students are out of school and in the workforce, ChromeOS is going to explode.
To be honest, I haven't used ChromeOS before, but what lock-in does it have besides the Google account that doesn't really matter for work? If someone knows how to use ChromeOS, then they can work with any other operating system as well.
I think the number of reviews deosnt say anything. I never review stuff anywhere nor any of my friends yet many (20+ according to Game Center Achievements) have bought RE4 and Deathstranding and actively playing it.

The best source is developers I guess, but someone would have to ask them.

Linux remains above macOS on the Steam Survey for January 2024
2 Feb 2024 at 6:40 pm UTC

Quoting: pleasereadthemanualA completely different opinion here:

It might be that gaming on macOS becomes more of a thing, but rather than being through Steam, it's through the App Store, or the developer's website. If you've gone to the trouble of porting the game to Metal, you might as well use the App Store.

I'm not sure if there are incentives to use the App Store over Steam. It seems like they get the same cut. I know macOS programs from the App Store tend to be gutted compared to programs distributed outside of it because of restrictions (DaVinci Resolve being one such example, Affinity Suite being another).

Another thought: I would be completely okay with Linux hitting 15% and 14% of that being Steam Deck users. Unlike ChromeOS, Valve has made absolutely no effort to distinguish between the Steam Deck and Linux proper. They're all just one system. On the hardware survey, I would assume ChromeOS just shows up as Linux.

ChromeOS (now that Google has dropped Stadia) is making a push toward Proton. In November, Google partnered with ProtonDB: https://www.protondb.com/news/chromebook-reports [External Link]

So...it's gonna be an interesting few years.

So basically you are telling me to give it another chance? I have quit playing it after 3-4 hours and never came back.
