Discover Overlay is a Discord chat UI that now works on Steam Deck

Quoting: GuestI don't get the point of this as there are third-party discord clients that do this and more that work well on the Deck.
using 3rd party clients also breaks the discord TOS. However, using Discover-Overlay does not. We just display data from the discord streamkit

Discordvery? Discoverlay? At least not worse than the current. :)

Yeah... really need a fork with just a slightly different name ngl.
Feel free. That's the beauty of open source! :D
Yo, didn't expect you to be here. Ya got some cool looking software there.
Thanks, Trigg does most of the hard coding work, I mainly just wind people up on Reddit ;)

Quoting: midget_3111Are you using Wayland or X11? What desktop environment?
If you go into settings, ticking force X shape should help.
X11, LXQt with OpenBox and the Picom compositor (maybe it’s Picom interfering because of the shadows it adds to windows?).
Ahhh yes. Picom has caused issues previously with the way it handles shadows. I think you can add an exemption. See here for more info :) https://github.com/ibhagwan/picom/issues/36#issuecomment-945764078 [External Link]

Quoting: pete910Ah, the discord streaming thingy, Must admit when I've tried it it's always been a bit meh . Not a Nitro member though so low res only.
I don't have nitro either but sometimes use the standard thing to show someone something.
The only issue I have is that it's such a crap res/bit rate, don't really recall if the audio worked for me or not in the past. Having said that, I've not used more than a handful of times. Even my windows mates don't do it that often due to issues.

I just stick to OBS via twitch or YT, Shame as the discord streaming can be handy on occasion.

Quoting: midget_3111it doesn't use NVENC when capturing, so if you're using an Nvidia GPU and try to screenshare it causes everything to stutter.
Get an AMD card for that OSS goodness
I wish I could afford one 😭

Quoting: TheRiddickNow if someone could make a plugin for discord to fix the streaming and no audio issue.
Have to ask, What issues are you having? Discord's audio has never been a problem with OBS ect for me personally. Or do you mean within windows ?
Nitro does not capture game audio. OBS is a separate app outside of discord which does not hook up into discord for its screen sharing function (which doesn't capture audio under Linux).
Sadly it isn't just the no audio on Linux issue either, it doesn't use NVENC when capturing, so if you're using an Nvidia GPU and try to screenshare it causes everything to stutter. Not a pleasant experience!

Quoting: midget_3111Whilst we do have options for Gentoo, Fedora & Arch AUR, these are community maintained so may take a while to update. We recommend installing via pip. If you keep encountering issues, please open a bug report on the Github project :)
I found why the gentoo package isn’t working: it’s missing the psutil dependency.
However after installing psutil and successfully running discover-overlay, now any fullscreen game or video is just black… If I kill discover-overlay the problem goes away.

I closed my github account after microsoft bought github, so I can’t make a bug report there.

Quoting: wytrabbitSo this doesn't interfere with or modify the Discord client in any way? I'm concerned with my account being banned.
Nope! I've been using it and it's predecessor for about 2 years now!
It might not have banned me, but when my kid started using it we got issues with discord not accepting our IP for a few hours every few hours. (3 accounts from the same ip address). When my kid stopped using it issues stopped as well.
That's interesting. Shouldn't be happening. Could you open an issue on our GitHub page so we can investigate this further?
If he wants to start using it again, sure. The error we got was : too many requests, 429.
Sounds like too many guild requests are being made. If you go into settings you can select which channels discover watches. We've found that if users are in over 50 guilds, this can occur.

Quoting: pete910Shot in the dark , will this work with OBS, The OBS browser pluggin is horrendous for failing due to CEF
Should do. Give it a try and let us know :D
Well just gave it a quick go, The answers no

It's probably due to that it's not an widow as such like what the config page is.

Edit:

Is there a way to pick a specific channel/room within a server ?
Yep! Configuration can be reached either via System tray or by running discover-overlay --configure :)
Must have missed that, I can only select servers, not channels in a specific one.

Quoting: midget_3111We use their official streamkit API, so no risk of violations :)
I thought it would have done, Just looked in the branch and states this .
Ahh right. It follows whichever channel you're currently in I believe. selecting a specific channel only works for text overlays currently.
