X Rebirth Space Sim Now On Linux In Alpha Form & Free On Steam For The Weekend

X: Rebirth is still out of my price range and I don't think I would buy it from the bug and game design issues people have been talking about. Maybe if it goes on sale for close to $5 ... or less, and after testing it in demo/freeplay weekend =P
Too busy this weekend to play it though, so probably won't.
P.S. I was brought here from Star Citizen's Unofficial Linux Thread [External Link] =)

Quoting: XeekeiConsidering I can't even launch X3: Reunion or Terran Conflict, and that the keyboard doesn't work in Albion Prelude; X Rebirth doesn't have a high bar to clear.I got X3 to work on my machine no problems (Kubuntu 12.04 and 14.04, nividia proprietary). Really liked it! Even got a $3 controller working with it =D.

I just realised we weren't talking about EA, in which case, there's hope!
And yes, Blizzard supporting Linux would be great! They do have some world e-sports class games which I played =P

Quoting: MadeanaccounttocommentNever fear, Star Citizen is coming here [External Link]! =)Quoting: liamdaweWe all know quality over quantity, but with 1000+ games now on Steam for Linux, there has to be something for everyone!Everyone but the AAA MMORPG crowd, it's the last chink in the compelling linux game selection armor. Something like Neverwinter, TERA, RIFT, GW2, WoW etc...
Shrouds of the Avatar may become something great but that's still yet to be seen and Warhammer 40k Online: Eternal Crusade is confirmed coming but that's more of an MMOFPS and lacks in the RPG department.
Steam Hardware Survey For February 2015

I suspect they might ask for permission once at install time, and add you to the survey EVERY month.
Correct me if you find evidence to the contrary though.
And I agree - figuring out Linux vs Windows vs Mac users would be VERY easy - just check the Steam client 'agent' connecting to their servers.

wooo! great photo coverage by ars, and nice VR and controller stuff too! =3
Lol, I like the caption:
I bet the specs would receive a nice update / price slash with >2 quarter's worth of hardware developments though!
Price is crappy though - I guess these manufacturers don't have licence fees from Steam to be able to subsidize their hardware ...
Valve is cool for releasing the $50 streaming box (which uses your desktop PC if u have one at home already, meaning no further expenses!).

Great ready for 14 exciting computer form factors! I mean, Steam Machines! The thing I'm most interested in is how they manage to fit in such small form factors (some of them) with the discrete graphics. Would love to see the internals! =P

If it's a GTX970 (or a 1000-series if that even is the name), I'm expecting a pretty hefty price tag =P
I just want to see the internal view of how they organise all the components in the small form factor! =)
I use a normal ATX case for my SteamBox ...
EDIT: wow, I was right about both GTX970 and the pricing =P But I guess these manufacturers don't have licence fees from Steam to be able to subsidize their hardware ...

This isn't the Vulkan article, but yes, it'll be cool =) And I'm expecting all major game engines to support it - they're shooting themselves in the competitive foot if they aren't.
Also, thanks for the article! Even tho we didn't get the press release ... =P
Next time! We are a great news/community site now, with developers playing nice with GoL reaping monetary rewards =)
