CryEngine V released, Crytek now offer CryEngine as "pay what you want", source code access too
16 Mar 2016 at 12:43 pm UTC

Is this http://docs.cryengine.com/display/SDKDOC4/CRYENGINE+on+Linux [External Link] saying that the
CryEngine Editor is in Linux?!?!
Because from https://www.cryengine.com/get-cryengine [External Link] it seems to say it's available only for Windows.

Gates of Hell, a successor to the Men of War series confirmed for Linux & SteamOS
28 Feb 2016 at 5:04 am UTC

This is great!!
MoW:AS has been one of my favourite if not my favourite RTS of all time! =D

Sad that I couldn't play it on Linux, but now that the next one will be out for us, I guess I might get back into it! =P

DoubleFine seem to have attracted a bit of a mess with Psychonauts 2 funding
9 Jan 2016 at 12:33 am UTC

Yeah, I've gotten screwed over by DoubleFine before, and stopped backing them, they've since screwed over other people.
As much as I think Psychonauts was a pretty good game (thanks Humble Bundle), it won't make me consider trusting them again.

That said, there are some crowdfunding projects which are good, and it's mainly due to the integrity of the company you're dealing with. The more transparent the company, the more likely they'll make good on their promises. I've found Cloud Imperium Games (the makers of Star Citizen) to be very open, transparent, and genuinely wanting to go above and beyond to fulfill their pledge to their backers and make a great game they want to play themselves. I've also backed a few other projects which have either turned out well or are going well and I wish them all the best, including a couple of hardware projects and Guns of Icarus Online. You have to be careful when backing projects, use your discernment about the people pitching and their integrity, ability and transparency, and accept the risk that the project could deliver or bust with around 50/50 chance. (My personal backed success rate is a bit higher than 50%, though it's probably around there for games).

New Linux Gamer Survey For December
18 Dec 2015 at 7:13 am UTC

Why is the form closed??? =S

Anyone with the link can edit the form, you might want to fix that >.>

EDIT: I just edited it so the form is now not closed and is accepting responses again so we can fill it in .. you really shouldn't let anyone with the link edit the form.
EDIT2: I just realised the form might be closed on purpose since it has been 2 weeks since the start of the month (been a bit busy this month so haven't followed GoL closely) so I closed it again - after submitting my response.

Leak: AMD's new driver will apparently offer much better performance on Linux
24 Nov 2015 at 9:57 am UTC

They probably need at least 150% to match nVidia drivers ...

Example:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=1080p-b-value&num=2 [External Link]

Also:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=amdnv-4k-15gpu&num=3 [External Link]

I hope they keep improving and at least achieve a better performance/price ratio than more than 1 nVidia card.

GOL Asks: What have you been playing on Linux & SteamOS recently?
23 Nov 2015 at 11:04 pm UTC

Star Citizen (Alpha) - not on Linux yet but promised to be. Poised to be my most favourite game of all time.
Insurgency - such a fun game, my favourite genre so nice tactical teamwork drew me in instantly
Prison Architect - didn't expect a story, pleasantly surprised
Empire: Total War - got a bit bored with the tutorial/campaign tho, so stopping that.

At a recent LAN we did:
TF2 - My 2nd most favourite game of all time (1st being Tribes 1, annihilation mod [External Link])
PAYDAY2 - Great fun! First time playing, nice teamwork game too. (I was waiting for it to come to Linux before installing, but the LAN made me install on windows.)
COD5

What I want to do:
Fix my broken modded KSP and explore 100%.
Start up Planet Explorers again, so many good functionality/features in this! =)

My Thoughts On SteamOS After Some Time With It
16 Nov 2015 at 6:39 am UTC

Hmmm interesting ... thanks for the insights and comments people!

I think I'll stick to running Xubuntu on my lounge room HTPC so I can run everything else in a familiar XFCE interface. I can also boot into SteamOS since I installed the desktop environment, but when I try to click "Return to Desktop" nothing happens. Maybe it's because underlying the DE is an original Kubuntu install and not a SteamOS install (like my computer has other services and servers like samba, uPnP, etc. running when I start it).

I may reconsider once I get the steam controller and hopefully a more powerful dedicated HTPC.
