Get a bunch of different simulators in the Summer Sims 2 Humble Bundle

I guess this is a good time to make you all discover the jewel of French video game development : Travaux Public Simulator 2011 (or Chantiers Voirie Simulator, the game isn't even consistent about its own name ). It would translate in English as "Road Building Simulateur", I suppose.

It's so good that it was probably never sold anywhere else in the world. It's like wine or cheese, you know, we keep the best of the best to ourselves. That's why it's not in this bundle, obviously.

This could be the "Plan 9 from Outerspace" of video games.

And the best part : because of the commercial success and critical acclaim, they made a whole series of these games, each about a different kind of job.

I can understand the nostalgia for 90's graphics, although I don't feel it (I see a huge influence from Transport Tycoon here), but do we really need UIs from the 90's as well ?

Pinball Spire is a fresh Pinballvania blending multiple genres with classic ball flipping

Developers seem to have a thing for balls these days : a few days ago, it was Rack and Slay, a roguelike dungeon crawler billiard. Now we have a pinballvania.

I'm waiting for the mashup : Slay the Pinball Spire

Quoting: Purple Library GuyMe, I want discreet graphics cards. For privacy; can't be too careful.
Your graphic card knows everything you've ever displayed on your screen. It's like that new "Recall" AI feature in Windows 11, but on steroids. We should all get rid of our GPUs !

As their stoned marketing manager in charge, I would surely ask Paradox for a colaboration.
That would end up with drivers for your laptop hardware in paid DLCs...

Quoting: kaimanThe one that comes to mind are the various add-ons to Test Drive II (new cars, new tracks). That must have been around '89 or '90.

The first game expansion I remember was The Forge of Virtue, for Ultima VII, '92.
Wikipedia [External Link] mentions "Xanadu scenario II", new content released in 1986 for "Dragon Slayer II: Xanadu". It was almost standalone content, but still required the original game for character creation. So I guess that qualifies as an expansion.

There may be even earlier examples.

EDIT : there are earlier examples. It goes back to at least 1981 ! [External Link]

EDIT 2 : actually, it even goes back to Pong in 1976 ! [External Link] It's more a tutorial to hack new content into your arcade game than a properly released expansion. But that's still new content that requires the original game, so...

Dicey Dungeons is definitely worth a look if you're into roguelike deckbuilders. Using dice instead of cards brings some novelty to the genre and makes it less random. And the art style is fun.
