It's not unforgettable, but it's good if that genre is your thing.

Quoting: SalvatosBeen a while, but it felt a bit too slow and contemplative for my taste. Like walking from one place to the next so the story would continue, but not really doing anything to influence it. Not really my cup of tea but beautiful and well made for what it is. I still played it to the end (and I don’t remember much of anything regarding the actual story so I won’t comment on that).I would describe it the same way, with the exception that I enjoyed the fact that it is a walking simulator.

Quoting: GroganP.S. I should also say that's an interesting concept. Imagine where that could take RPG type games. For one example, I've often hated the limited responses and choices available. "I'd never say THAT" etc. and I often thought that even if they could humour me (whether it affects outcome or not) it would help with the immersion. For example input could be evaluated to be a favourable choice, or a hostile choice and the NPC could react accordingly.I don't know what to think about this. On one hand, language processing AIs are a major concern because their existence is made possible by collecting and analyzing insane amounts of user data. And that's something I can't convince myself to ignore. But on the other hand, as a big fan of RPGs, I completely get your point, there is a huge potential here and I would absolutely want to try such a game !

Human writers sometimes get fooled by funny fake articles and relay them on serious sites as if they were actual news.
I'm not sure if what happened here is a failure from the AI at showing intelligence or a success at mimicking human stupidity.

Get a bunch of cyberpunk games in this latest bundle

They are taking a big risk using that name. "Anno" is probably a trademark, and I wouldn't blame Ubisoft is they sued the developer. That series has been around for decades, they can't pretend they had never heard of it...

ANNO: MutationemWhen I read that name, I thought it was a new city builder in the Anno series, set in a cyberpunk universe.

I can totally understand the idea of creating a game inspired by Stellaris but shorter and simpler.
But let's be honest, it does not seem "inspired by" Stellaris, it looks like alpha footage from Stellaris. All the features mentioned exist in Stellaris, the map is almost identical (but looks better in Stellaris), the UI feels very similar (but looks better in Stellaris). The art direction for ships, stars, planets... might be a bit different. It feels a bit more cartoonish from the screenshots, but I'm not sure if it's done voluntarily of if it's just a failed attempt at copying the style of Stellaris again.
I hope I'm wrong and they are just showcasing everything they have copied from Stellaris for marketing reasons, but I see very little creativity here

If You Like… Slay the Spire

What he enjoyed in building decks was optimizing them, until they performed exactly the way he intended them to. Of course a deck building game is different because you start from scratch every game, but many games allow you to choose an orientation for your deck at the start of the game, and will not prevent you from sticking to it. In a way, it's the same as building a deck in a CCG, but on a shorter scale.
StS does exactly the opposite. You don't know what cards or relics you will get, so you are not trying to build an optimized deck. For most of the game, you are trying to build a deck that is just good enough to avoid dying against the next elite / boss you might face. And if you manage to do that for the whole game, congratulations, you won !
These two approaches lead to very different game experiences and clearly don't target the same players. We could probably consider them two separate sub-genres...

Quoting: scaineI discussed this with a friend not long ago. He has played a lot of CCGs in the past, including tournaments up to national level. He had never heard of Slay the Spire, and when I described it to him, he was genuinely horrified. :grin:Quoting: inlinuxdudeAs someone who has almost 2,500 hours into StS, I'd disagree with this.I didn't really dig into it in the article, but one of the reasons I mostly gave up on StS is that problem - the sheer randomness of it. There's very little you can do to influence what relics you get, or what cards you're offered. So in around 75 runs, I faced the Heart a few times thinking I had a chance, but only a few. I prefer games that are a bit more mindful of my time. Games like Breach Wanderers offer excellent customisation, while Roguebook similarly offers many, many more cards to choose from, allowing for far greater "direction" when you're playing.

When you grow bored of Slay the Spire, there is also Downfall [External Link], which is... even more Slay the Spire !
It's a huge mod / expansion. Among other things, it adds a whole new "reverse" game mode : you play as one of the normal game act bosses, travel in the spire downwards (hence the name) and at the end of each act, you face one of the normal game characters.
Each playable boss has unique and interesting mechanisms that fit its style and the whole thing in very well polished and integrated into the base game. And of course, it's a mod, so it's free.

From what we can see in the trailer and screenshots, there seems to be very limited randomness in card effects, which is good. All card games already have randomness from drawing cards, adding even more usually decreases strategic depth.
This combined with all the tactical possibilities offered by playing / moving things around on a 2D board sounds like an interesting design !
And they use Godot, what's not to love ?
