The last time I tried it, I found it quite straining on the eyes. Not as in bad graphics, but my eyes quickly got tired from trying to make out things. I would prefer a cleaner visual look. Also there were scenes where the whole screen would switch from almost all black to almost all white, which my eyes did not appreciate. It is a shame really, because I did like the atmosphere in general.

Bit off-topic, sorry, but can anyone give me any pointers on how to use Vulkan on an Optimus laptop? I currently rely on Bumblebee, but it does not seem to support Vulkan.
Why Linux games often perform worse than on Windows

As a Linux user, I don't care that much, because I have nothing to compare it with. They are essentially different pieces of software with major components replaced (like DirectX to OpenGL), compiled to different binary formats, and run on systems that handle basically every subsystem differently. Luckily more and more games are made with Linux (well cross-platform actually) in mind, and the performance difference is starting to fade.
Linux is a better system design in general, and can outperform the competitors in many use cases. Disc IO performance tends to be better on Linux, so are memory intensive and multi-threaded tasks. I don't have any benchmarks, sorry, just my anecdotal experience. Therefore I believe that as soon as graphics performance gets better, we will see definite benefits, because other parts of the system perform very well already.

Desura, IndieRoyale and DailyRoyale now have new owners who plan to revive them

Desura has literally no value. It's infamous at best, game selection is non-existing, and the client software is a mess. It really is no competition to anybody. I wish them best of luck and all, but the story sounds all too familiar. Oh yeah, that's why: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/ownership-of-desura-changes-again.4544

If you haven't done it already, play the Penumbra games. They are a bit dated graphically, but have a great atmosphere, story, and physics engine. Amnesia TDD is also great.
Also I would highly suggest Reveal the Deep. It's a small 2D game priced at €0.99 on Steam. Despite the price I found it to be very well made and actually creepy.

Quoting: ShmerlWhy no GOG release?I hope this will not derail the discussion, but I personally appreciate Steam and the service it provides. I used to prefer DRM-free when I had tens of games. But when it went into hundreds after a bundle frenzy, I have no way to store or manage all of them myself. It's like trying to download all of Netflix.
