Heroic Games Launcher for running Epic Store titles on Linux 1.7.0 release is out

Quoting: Purple Library GuyIf you do something like that, I wouldn't call it "stop", I'd call it "pause"--which has that implication that you can continue. "Stop" sounds a bit more final.
True. Pause makes more sense. 👍

Some UI changes will be needed, as the resume feature isn't obvious as you need to hit Cancel to get the option to pick up the download again later but it works at least.
That's great feedback!
We will need to think on how this would be more intuitive. Maybe adding a stop button close to the progress bar or adding a stop button close to the cancel and removing the dialog.

Next version will be better since we will also have other visual improvements.

And thanks for sharing news about heroic here 😁

Quoting: drlambI'm going to be trying Legendary (maybe heroic) to hopefully play the free copy of Star Wars battlefront 2 Epic is giving away on the 14th. I'd love to own it on Steam but I don't have enough interest in this iteration of BF (no private servers or custom matches, really???) to want to spend money on it until I know I'll like it.

Rather than mess with Lutris, heroic, and custom proton versions I'm likely to only install the game via Legendary but then run/launch it with Proton on steam, similar to how GamerOS does it.

This is how you can use Proton with Legendary: https://github.com/derrod/legendary/wiki/Using-Proton [External Link]
I'll configure Heroic to use these parameters as well on the next version.

Quoting: edoThey should focus on providing proton support before even thinking about adding features not strictly needed by the epic games

just add the proton GE folder as default wineprefix and you can choose between all of your downloaded GE versions
i just tried 2 games, but they work OOTB
Just one small note about Proton. Right now Heroic is calling the wine binary inside the Proton folder and this is not the right way to do it so it might have some issues.

I'm changing it to use the --wrapper {proton} --no-wine legendary command to run the actual proton wrapper and get all its advantages. This should come on the next version.
For now, I recommend using Lutris-wine instead.

Great! A question about the integrated legendary - are you making customizations to it compared to upstream? If not, perhaps you would consider having it as a dependency again, at least for packaged versions (i.e. RPM)? It's in the Fedora updates repo.
I'm not changing anything on it, it is the same executable that we can download from their GH page.
The thing is that the dependency can work for DEB and RPM, Pacman probably as well, but for the tar.xz and the AppImage the user will need to install it so it can be a mess. Another thing is that I can control the version I want, so if they change something on their side that can break heroic, it won't affect me until I update on my side.

But I need to align that with then, to be honest.

Yeah, I'm aware of this bug and this new version fixed it:
Yep, that's fixed now! Looking forward to UI improvements... I decided to install "A Short Hike" as a test, and saw it still uses xterm for that. Once it finished the installation, I had to close the window manually, and the app window didn't refresh. But when I went back to the library, it recognized it was installed, and clicking it showed the Play/Uninstall buttons.

Search and filter (at least toggle between installed/all) options for the library are also in order, I would think.

When installing, remember the last install location (and maybe have an option to not bother asking all the time).

If you click on your username, it shows you a big LOGOUT button, but no Cancel or Back to Library (have to restart if I don't want to log out, I guess?). Oh, clicking on the username goes back - not very intuitive.

So probably this weekend we will have version 1.0 with the new design and options to use different wine versions, prefixes, etc.

Thanks for trying and you can always put requests or bugs on our github as well. :D

Hi!

Thanks for posting here about the Launcher. I started the project but it is growing really fast now and we have other contributors.

Right now we are working on a major overhaul of the interface without being dependent on Xterm or Legendary being installed anymore. we are still using Legendary ofc, but now it is integrated with Heroic. But for Xterm, we will not need it anymore since now we have a proper login screen and feedback on the installation status.
Also, we are adding an option to use another wine version (proton maybe but I think Lutris wine would be better) and a different wine prefix.

If you want to take a look on the new interface, I added the pictures here on this thread on Github:
https://github.com/flavioislima/HeroicGamesLauncher/issues/4#issuecomment-754544527 [External Link]

And if you work with web technologies like React, NodeJS, CSS, feel free to clone the repository and make improvements as well.

In the future, we also want to add the possibility to add games outside of Epic and maybe with other stores.

I tried an earlier version, and it just had a login loop. Latest version says it changed that, but it never prompts for anything at all and just shows a blank window. It does show an error when run from CLI:

Error occurred in handler for 'readFile': TypeError: Cannot read property 'url' of undefined
at /opt/heroic/resources/app.asar/build/main.js:152:15

Meanwhile, legendary itself is working fine, at least to log in and list all the free games I claimed; I'm happy to cost Epic money.
