Heroic Games Launcher for running Epic Store titles on Linux 1.7.0 release is out

Also, electron is another oss project, if companies like slack are using it is because it is good, easy to develop and give too many possibilities to the devs.
I know you're not attacking me, I didn't understand that. But if you talk something like this, that we don't need it because there is another project that does the same. This makes all the idea about freedom of choice pointless.
Like you said, if you need epic you can use legendary, rare, now imagine that the only option for that was using Egs emulated on wine like it was until before?
Cheers man! Let's make the Linux Community nice again 😝

Quoting: drlambSo, I also don't understand why the hate with electron. In the past electron was really bloated and was using several mb of memory. But as any other tech, it evolves.Quoting: fearnflavioThis was not a personal or professional attack. I appreciate projects like this and people like you for creating something that didn't exist to fill a need/want in the Linux ecosystem.
I have a strong disdain for the bloated electron framework. This isn't simply "Why use this when X exists?" There's already too many apps that I have to use that requires it (Slack for work, for example).
Then again I'm not the target market for this. If I needed/wanted a game from the EGS I'd likely us it directly via Wine or use legendary.

I mean, you use Linux and do you ask why there is arch if Ubuntu already exists?
Also, when I started heroic rare wasn't launched yet, they got back to the project after heroic start I know because we talk a lot
us, devs from heroic, rare and legendary. This is not a competition, we are all friends.
We make open source code and we are proud of that.
Why electron? Simple, because its the only language I know since I work with it, not electron but Web tech. And this is the way I found out to contribute to open source.
Why can't people simple be happy that we have several options and everyone can use anything they like?
That's the good about open source, am I wrong?
You don't have to use anything that you don't want to. Simple be happy that you have people working to make open source software. 🙂

Quoting: drlambI still don't understand the use of Electron in this. Rare [External Link] doesn't require it and does similar things. But that's simple. would you like to have only one option for everything?

Quoting: Purple Library GuyIf you do something like that, I wouldn't call it "stop", I'd call it "pause"--which has that implication that you can continue. "Stop" sounds a bit more final.True. Pause makes more sense. 👍

We will need to think on how this would be more intuitive. Maybe adding a stop button close to the progress bar or adding a stop button close to the cancel and removing the dialog.
Next version will be better since we will also have other visual improvements.
And thanks for sharing news about heroic here 😁

Some UI changes will be needed, as the resume feature isn't obvious as you need to hit Cancel to get the option to pick up the download again later but it works at least. That's great feedback!

I'll configure Heroic to use these parameters as well on the next version.

Quoting: drlambI'm going to be trying Legendary (maybe heroic) to hopefully play the free copy of Star Wars battlefront 2 Epic is giving away on the 14th. I'd love to own it on Steam but I don't have enough interest in this iteration of BF (no private servers or custom matches, really???) to want to spend money on it until I know I'll like it.This is how you can use Proton with Legendary: https://github.com/derrod/legendary/wiki/Using-Proton [External Link]
Rather than mess with Lutris, heroic, and custom proton versions I'm likely to only install the game via Legendary but then run/launch it with Proton on steam, similar to how GamerOS does it.

I'm changing it to use the
For now, I recommend using Lutris-wine instead.

Quoting: mylkaJust one small note about Proton. Right now Heroic is calling the wine binary inside the Proton folder and this is not the right way to do it so it might have some issues.Quoting: edoThey should focus on providing proton support before even thinking about adding features not strictly needed by the epic games
just add the proton GE folder as default wineprefix and you can choose between all of your downloaded GE versions
i just tried 2 games, but they work OOTB
I'm changing it to use the
--wrapper {proton} --no-wine legendary command to run the actual proton wrapper and get all its advantages. This should come on the next version. For now, I recommend using Lutris-wine instead.

The thing is that the dependency can work for DEB and RPM, Pacman probably as well, but for the tar.xz and the AppImage the user will need to install it so it can be a mess. Another thing is that I can control the version I want, so if they change something on their side that can break heroic, it won't affect me until I update on my side.
But I need to align that with then, to be honest.

Quoting: PhlebiacI'm not changing anything on it, it is the same executable that we can download from their GH page.Quoting: fearnflavioYeah, everything you said is being fixed on the next version that is almost done.Great! A question about the integrated legendary - are you making customizations to it compared to upstream? If not, perhaps you would consider having it as a dependency again, at least for packaged versions (i.e. RPM)? It's in the Fedora updates repo.

So probably this weekend we will have version 1.0 with the new design and options to use different wine versions, prefixes, etc.
Thanks for trying and you can always put requests or bugs on our github as well. :D

Quoting: PhlebiacYeah, everything you said is being fixed on the next version that is almost done.Quoting: fearnflavioYep, that's fixed now! Looking forward to UI improvements... I decided to install "A Short Hike" as a test, and saw it still uses xterm for that. Once it finished the installation, I had to close the window manually, and the app window didn't refresh. But when I went back to the library, it recognized it was installed, and clicking it showed the Play/Uninstall buttons.Quoting: Phlebiacit never prompts for anything at all and just shows a blank window.Yeah, I'm aware of this bug and this new version fixed it:
Search and filter (at least toggle between installed/all) options for the library are also in order, I would think.
When installing, remember the last install location (and maybe have an option to not bother asking all the time).
If you click on your username, it shows you a big LOGOUT button, but no Cancel or Back to Library (have to restart if I don't want to log out, I guess?). Oh, clicking on the username goes back - not very intuitive.
So probably this weekend we will have version 1.0 with the new design and options to use different wine versions, prefixes, etc.
