Unity introduces new fees for game devs based on revenue and game installs

Quoting: ssj17vegetaWell, that's great news for Godot !
It really is. As soon as the news land, one of the NekoNyan member (they do VN translation and in case of older titles often port them to their home-grown Unity engine) said they're looking at Godot now. It's still informal for now, but I do expect a lot of devs to be looking at alternatives now, even if Unity backtracks.

Also, Mihoyo is... probably not happy about these. I think they already use Qt for portions of their game, like their internal browser, so they might not be against OSS engine entirely... wonder if Zenless Zone Zero will be delayed now, along with other Chinese gacha games who likes Unity as well.

Steam and Steam Deck stable client update adds Indonesian support

I'm surprised there hasn't already been Indonesian support, considering how Dota was (is?) very popular in netcafe since like a decade ago. Ofc, most of those audience have moved to Mobile Legends now (one hilarious situation was last month when I was at a concert and someone was watching MPL in front of me instead of the concert).

VKD3D-Proton v2.10 brings various game fixes, DirectStorage additions and lots more

Quoting: Mountain ManIt seems strange to me that driver developers have to make their drivers work with games instead of game developers making their games work with drivers.
That's just how it is. Part of those GPU vendor partnerships generally include quite a lot of back-and-forth for optimising and just plain making the game works.

The fact of the matter is that game devs are mostly there to make games, not tinker around figuring out how the driver works.

Bazzite is a new Fedora-based Linux for Steam Deck and gaming PCs

I've been building my ublue image based on Bazzite for a month now. It's pretty good. A few weird things, like how mesa version that the Bazzite image can sometimes conflict with something else from rpm-fusion if you build your images with a bunch of extra stuff (usually resolves itself within 2-5 days). Also, some of the configs are different from Kinoite, and that required me to re-configure my konsolerc.

But overall it's been pretty good. After I tested Bazzite for a month on my PC, I reinstalled my KDE Neon laptop to my ublue-bazzite image and the CPU scheduler (which borrows system76's) works better for me, and it has all of the configs I want built in.

I definitely recommend people to look up making your own ublue image with their automatic setup. Whether you use the Web UI [External Link] or CLI [External Link], it was very easy, the repo and recipe are laid own in an easy to understand format, and it solves most of people's issues with immutable distro with how you can bake in changes to the image so you can still be a tinkerer, with a side of backup in the form of 90-days backup via GitHub Containers Registry for your image (also makes tracing bad updates easy too - just go through each days till you get where the bad update starts).

On another note... can we get an update to the distro list now pls? There's been a ton of cool and exciting project lately that I hope would be added to the list... though maybe it can be divided between .deb, .rpm, .pkg (Arch), and other families, for statistics purposes?

Roblox support is coming back to Wine on Linux

Yeah, there was something to their language about Linux support that made me have hopium that they weren't lying... and for once, they weren't. Feels weird given all the lies in gaming industry and Linux supports.

OBS Studio 30.0 Beta 1 released supporting Intel QSV on Linux
21 Aug 2023 at 4:49 am UTC

I wonder if Global Menu fix for Wayland cannot be handled on OBS side and would need to wait until Plasma 6. It's been quite annoying as the remux menu can't be accessed unless I force x11 for OBS so that it'd work with libdbusmenu and the Global Menu appears on my system.

Proton Experimental updated for August 18 fixing up more regressions

Fixed Proton Experimental regression: WHITE ALBUM: Memories like Falling Snow
Very nice. A lot of Japanese VN are usually pretty annoying to fix because they're just all over the place in terms of things that they need tweaks for.

ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON rated Steam Deck Playable ahead of release
21 Aug 2023 at 4:45 am UTC Likes: 2

It is good that they're being honest and clear that it's Playable but not Verified. I feel like there's been a lot of Verified titles that aren't really Verified-worthy, and that's making the rating be less reliable and trustable.

Although tbh I would just use the ProtonDB extensions and browse games using my browser to check their ProtonDB ratings because I still trust ProtonDB better.

Heroic Games Launcher gets a critical hotfix in 2.9.1

Not surprising that the Nix packagers are holding off for the hotfix. Wonder if there'll be a second hotfix after this.

Quoting: torstenchrI've tried reaching out to derrod (developer) on github but it seems like this issue is not taken serious.... :(
Seems to be this issue [External Link], which is part of this issue [External Link], and currently have an unreleased hotfix ready [External Link].
