SteamOS for the Steam Deck gets slimmed down to 10GB

Quoting: TermyDoes anyone know what the hell they are including to make it that big? Even with several proton-versions preinstalled it shouldn't get up to 10GB, let alone 24.
Or are they maybe going in the silverblue-direction and include a bunch of redundant libraries?
Well, they'll probably need to allocate for system update, and possibly some sort of "factory reset" in case someone broke their install. There's also their custom UI that they'll probably use.
Quoting: LinasWas wondering the same. I have a system next to me right now that is running a pretty standard, albeit minimal GNOME desktop, and it is using 5G of disk space.
Well, if you account for Wine, that'll add probably add 1GB. Account for factory reset and pre-allocated space for system image update as well... I think that's pretty reasonable?

I really love this. I'm currently looking at Endless OS and Fedora Kinoite to see if it could work for my usecase.

I would love to also have a Toolbox container though. If the UX on PC is decent, I might just use it, then use Toolbox to have CrossOver inside one Toolbox, then install most of what I need via Flatpak (and maybe some other AUR-under-Toolbox container if they're not there).

Personally, I just find other game stores to be a hassle. And most of their feature parity with Steam is lacking, even if you're a Windows gamer.

The whole Steam package is what's keeping me on Steam. Steam Cloud, Steam Workshop, Steam Guide, Steam Community (I don't use it much, but posting cool/funny screenshots do give that dopamine hit), Steam Friends, Steam Chat, easy invite, Steam Play Together (I've used it play a fighting game with a friend - latency isn't great but it's just for fun so whatevs), Steam Overlay (with easy browser access)...

Quoting: rustybroomhandleAnd I guess while we're at it, Lutris is not on there either. (been on flathub-beta for ages)
Can someone tell me how Steam and Lutris has been, on Flathub? I've only gotten around to installing it this week but haven't had the chance to test either yet.

Damn, that's nice. I've played the game on an Arch-based KDE system, but currently I have issues with the cutscenes being weirdly unstable in framerate, but that seems to be fixed here.

I'm not sure how many people uses it, but I feel like Garuda Linux has earned enough staying power that I feel like it deserves to be on the list.

Like, it feels weird to have Open Mandriva, Mageia, and openSUSE which aren't particularly focused on gaming or use for desktop by masses but distro like Garuda Linux and Feren OS aren't represented.

I've just filled in Manjaro KDE as a result, even though I've been using Garuda for the last half year.

Canonical want your feedback on Ubuntu Gaming

I'm not going to trust Canonical. At any point before this, Ubuntu could have acknowledged gaming as a usecase. But no, Pop and Valve had to wade through until the point where it's useable and now they're like "gaming, eh?"

Ever since I actually take a look at the their history, I don't think I could trust them anymore.

So we'll see.

Will Pop!_OS be pushing this update to a new ISO? Wasn't the main issue in the beginning was that Linus didn't update before he tried to install Steam?

Quoting: fenglengshunnce I've actually encountered a KDE distro that fits my taste in workflow, I fell in love with it.
Which KDE distro is this? I tend to use Debian because it sets up what the project feels should be the defaults. If the Project leads could get some advice from the distros on a better default, that'd be fantastic.
Well, I started with Garuda, but that was a bit much, though I did learn a lot from disabling some of its effects and figuring out how they achieved their looks.

Then I try Feren which has a desktop layout switcher and a more subdued effects/colors. I like it better, and I like the idea of UX/desktop layout switcher a whole lot. While a full implementation like Feren would be too much for KDE defaults, I think some built-in Panel+Dock config options would be great (Budgie's implementation was pretty good for example).

The only issue is that both of them (and XeroLinux which also interest me) uses Latte dock/panel, which would be like if GNOME ship with Plank by default. But KDE officially cited Parachute and Mission Control as inspiration for their own Overview implementation, so they might ship some of Latte's functions as well (I would really love for drag titlebar via Panel and scroll workspace via Panel being official).
