That's cool, isn't this what stopping Persona 4 from getting Playable on Steam Verified? I hope we'll never have to encounter codec issues anymore soon, because that's been a PAINFUL issue for me as someone who plays a lot of Japanese games old and new (I've needed at least three wineprefix just to account for those).

That's cool, though I'm pretty sure there are similar existing tools already incorporated somewhere in Garuda's list of tweaks.
Is there a benefit if you're already using Ananicy-Cpp + linux-tkg-pds (or similar at least kernel with the zen patches) though?

Lutris game manager getting Ubisoft Connect integration

As someone who have used Lutris on Endless OS (an immutable OS), I can say that Lutris' current system don't quite work on Flatpak (especially with regards to .AppImage emulators, and nevermind that those .AppImage is often outdated compared to the Flatpak releases).

Quoting: GuestI'm betting Lutris are also getting prepared for Steam Deck. They definitely are. I can't think why else they originally targeted full Flatpak-integration for 5.10, before taking it off the milestone as it got stalled.

Quoting: torkel104Ubisoft is a horrible company that abuses its workers and customers alike. Do not support them!I just claim my free games from them. I don't care about actually paying there - Steam is the only place for me, now that HumbleBundle going in the shitter.

There's also a full Flatpak integration in-progress [External Link], which I'm super hyped about, though that one isn't done yet. I think it was targeted for 5.10 [External Link] as well, but it looks like they've moved it down.
Easy Anti-Cheat gets much simpler for Proton and Steam Deck

If even just Apex gets it, then I'm going to be so very happy. That's literally the only game that I want to play as of late that has anti-cheat.

To be honest, at this point the things stopping me from using Wayland has little to do with the DE's implementation of Wayland itself as much as the apps.
TeamViewer still x11-only means a total no-go from me. But even outside of that, things like input-remapper (formerly key-mapper) which suddenly just breaks on Wayland for my keybind. Also drag-window by dragging from latte-dock panel incorrectly positioning cursor in the middle of the window instead of at the top (making drag to another screen, then maximize it be hassle because the mouse is further down than it's supposed to be).
Apps not working/supported, sudden breakage, and a bunch of papercuts. Was this what Linux was like +5 years ago?

KDE finally gets root operations in Dolphin, big 2022 plans for Wayland

Regardless, I'm looking forward, because IF they manage keep KWin's functions around, it'll be the closest we have to a proper replacement for many X11 tools that hasn't gotten its replacement yet, like wmctrl and xkill.
I've only tested it for a few minutes last time, but it got annoying switching between X11 and Wayland due to issues with monitor name and panel locations, so I'm looking forward to those multi-monitor focus. A bit disheartened to not see Baloo as the next thing to tackle though.

Quoting: FredrikI wonder if that means hdr support is coming. And I also hope they will make wayland usable with nvidia cards too.I'm pretty sure it's already useable with Nvidia, not long after Nvidia released GBM support? It could always be better, of course, but there's problem with Wayland and then there's problems with Nvidia.

Maui Shell seems like a very interesting KDE graphical environment

A lot of people do like the polish GNOME has, just that the particulars become disputed and then it becomes worse because, I don't know, GNOME team just seems to have that effect.
As far as this new shell is concerned.... ehhh. I think it looks cool, but I'm not convinced as my experience with Maui apps has been that "it looks nice, it could probably work well on alternate form factor, but compared to existing solutions, they just get in the way instead."
Most prominently with index-fm - I tried that one, in hope of a file manager with session saving, and in the end I just went back to Dolphin. I'd rather use Nemo or Dolphin over index-fm, though it's a toss up between Nautilus and index.
I'll definitely test it in a VM once the beta starts... I think on February? As long as they have an .iso to make testing easy.

Quoting: MacabreHeartLooks good. Quite like Gnome tbh but i dont see that as a bad thing, although it does make me curious if we'll see the same vitriolic complaints applied to it.I think most of the vitriolic complaints for GNOME comes down to modification (theming, extensions, tweaks, etc.) and overreaches (libadwaita, effects on other distro and apps), amplified by being essentially the 'default' DE of many major distro, plus overall just whatever is going on with their devteam because I feel like they've been feuding with pretty much everyone for ages, from distro maintainers, to users, to even the kernel team as well.

Quoting: anewsonI've never tried KDE, now seems like the timeI'd recommend FerenOS to test them. If Ubuntu Budgie is like GNOME for sane people, then FerenOS is the Budgie equivalent for Plasma.
Trouble in Solus Linux land as their Experience Lead quits

Oh thank god Budgie is now independent. I don't really care about Solus - it's neat, but they pale in comparison to the importance of Budgie to me. It's kind of the reverse of Elementary OS to me, where I like a lot of it that isn't the DE, and in here I don't really care about Solus but really like the DE.
I hope that the path forward is clearer soon - the EDL switch is hanging very closely, and I hope it doesn't become a real issue in the future.
And issues like this is why I hope that FerenOS will finally formally create its team this year and why Ubuntu, Fedora, and Manjaro are just more reliable and trustable.

SteamOS for the Steam Deck gets slimmed down to 10GB

Honestly, I think SteamOS could be more efficient, but it could possibly be some redundancy because end-user expect things to "just works."

Quoting: minkiuEdit: Looking at Endless OS download ISOs https://endlessos.com/download/ [External Link] They are between 14GB ~ 20GB, I know they are GNOME based, but still a good reference I'd say, although they seem to bundle a lot of software/tools.There is a 1.7GB ISO. The 17GB one is meant for use in education sector with limited bandwidth, so it has a lot of e-book/wikihow, a bunch of apps pre-installed, and include they coding games they're pushing.
