@Caldathras
The short answer is: they use Containers technology (which is used in Cloud) locally/offline (aka Native).
When you actually get down to it, their build process is remarkably similar to (if not basically IS) docker image/container build process. Then you as user just pull that image to run offline - or maybe build on top of it, like any Docker/Podman container. It's super cool stuff.

SteamOS will never have a Bazzite Portal (`yafti`) and its accompanying `just` CLI backend. That alone will make it so that Bazzite will always have a place as the "more convenient SteamOS" if not also "more up-to-date SteamOS" as well as "more customizable SteamOS" with how deep you can go with rpm-ostree/bootc and ublue-os/BlueBuild github template.
Even when SteamOS is out, I'll still recommend people to try out Bazzite because if nothing else, you can get stuff like Waydroid, key-remapper, OpenRGB, and others - things that people might not even know exist - to be installed quickly during the setup process. That's big.

I think SEO here can just mean "things you can easily find from Google," which is good because most people are going to just go to Google when they're confused with anything Linux/SteamOS and isn't already in a forum/chat thread.
Though, maybe mention Bazzite as well, since people are still using it as a SteamOS alternative?

Hm, Hoyoplay is interesting given most of their games still need a patch (though I heard Genshin and ZZZ doesn't need it?).
No more support for DMM is a shame, but that launcher is a mess from my personal experience.

Why are there so many different Proton versions? Proton 8, Proton 9, Experimental, GE-Proton

Isn't the Proton major version always tied to Wine Stable update? Proton 9 = rebased on top of Wine 9.

I honestly don't even check anymore - everything I'm interested in is compatible, except for gacha games where I assume it's not compatible. Still, I still have the ProtonDB extension installed (obligatory warming regarding inherent insecurity of using random extensions).

Yeah, I hope it is Flathub. Flathub+others would be fine, but I really really hope Flathub is a focus because it's just the defaults for Steam Deck and most other Linux distros. I'd rather it not be Snap or .deb...
Fedora KDE gets approval to be upgraded to sit alongside Fedora Workstation

The fact that replacing GNOME with KDE for Fedora Workstation was even discussed is crazy. I do hope that they really will put both as equals - if one is labeled Fedora Workstation and the other Fedora KDE, then I wouldn't call that equal...

If it doesn't fit your preference, then use one of its downstreams like Nobara, Aurora, Bazzite, UltrarisiOS, or risiOS which are more newcomer-friendly. Fedora is meant to be a very unopinionated and cleanly-operated community project

Quoting: dziadulewiczIndeed. It's an absolute shitshow. It is mandatory to use terminal and somehow *know* commands and what else. You are expected to just *know* there is this thing called RPMFusion (that you have to manually enable, and from where to start with, also a mystery as not any website or link is given). The installer doesn't express any of this. You also need to install additional codecs. It's codecs. It's related to patents. Patent laws are a mess. Ubuntu, and its downstreams, choose to ignore the issue. Fedora follows a stricter guidelines. There's really not much you can do with what Fedora's rules vs Patent rules.
Fedora doesn't ship patented media codecs by default as for example Ubuntu and Linux Mint do.
It is beyond any normally thinking user *why there are no couple of simple boxes to tick* during install to achieve this totally basic functionality to watch videos.
So basically a new comer "can't watch YouTube, Dlive and Twitch on Linux" OOTB if you happen to choose Fedora as a first distro.
